Qualifications

  • Completion of a degree/diploma in Creative Communications or related field with four years of directly-related experience.
  • Interest in human rights and social justice required.
  • Experience in graphic design and accessibility using Adobe, Canva, HeyZine, Affinity, Final Cut Pro.
  • Experience with new media technologies, online tools and social media; WordPress knowledge.
  • Experience in community engagement, events, and communications; ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate design, production, and dissemination of accessible research materials.
  • Develop and implement social media strategy across platforms (Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Instagram).
  • Manage WordPress site content.
  • Create accessible posters and event promotions.
  • Use Canva, video editing, HeyZine, ArcGIS, and Adobe tools for outputs.
  • Support event planning and outreach aligned with CHRR mandate.
  • Initiate relationships with community groups and Indigenous communities.
  • Assist with logistics of events on the day.

Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Completion of a degree/diploma from a recognized institute required and relevant experience in Creative Communications, graphic design, journalism, or related field plus four years of directly-related experience is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Interest in human rights and social justice issues is required.
  • Experience in graphic design, with an eye to accessibility, using tools such as Adobe, Canva, HeyZine, Affinity, Final Cut Pro is required.
  • Experience with new media technologies, online communication tools and social media is required.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, Word Press is required.
  • Experience and skills in community engagement and communications is required.
  • Experience with event planning and logistics is required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be creative and self-motivated, with strong organizational skills, professional demeanor, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.
  • Must have strong writing skills for drafting press releases, blog posts, and short articles aimed at the general public.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with multiple audiences is required.
  • Ability to reach out and develop relationships with community-based organizations, Indigenous communities, and others is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as part of a team is required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities

Communications

  • Coordinate the design, production, and dissemination of research reports and the development of accessible research-related materials using engaging and accessible design strategies.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive social media strategy aligned with organizational goals, leveraging platforms including Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Manage web content for WordPress site.
  • Create accessible posters and event promotions.
  • Use range of tools including Canva, video editing and storage, HeyZine, ArcGIS, and Adobe.
  • Supports event planning and coordination of events and outreach activities that strategically align with the mandate of the CHRR.
  • Initiates communication and establishes relationships with representatives of community groups.
  • Tailor activities based on target audience to enhance outreach effectiveness.
  • Assists with the logistics of the events on the day of.

Administrative

  • Communicate with staff at the CHRR to keep them apprised of project progress.
  • Assist in the development of digital archiving of project materials and resources.
  • Assist the Office Assistant in administration of events, including room bookings, processing payments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
