Job summary

Jobtailor in Canada is seeking an experienced Claims Adjuster to actively adjust property claims while maximizing business development opportunities. You will market and follow up on opportunities promptly with policyholders and claimants, investigate causes, and prepare action plans and settlements using Docusketch and other tools.

The role requires 5–10 years of claims adjusting experience, Ontario licensing, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • High school completion is required.
  • University degree or post-secondary education related to insurance preferred.
  • 5–10 years of relevant claims adjusting experience.
  • Ontario licensing is required; multi-jurisdictional licensing is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret complex legal documents and perform advanced numerical calculations.

  • Adjust property claims actively while maximizing business development opportunities.
  • Market and follow up on opportunities promptly with policyholders and claimants.
  • Contact and follow up promptly with insured parties.
  • Investigate claim causes and report findings and recommendations to clients.
  • Use Docusketch and other tools to scope damages and establish quantum.
  • Identify exposures and recommend reserves and required investigations.
  • Prepare action plans and negotiate fair and satisfactory settlements.
  • Provide high-level customer service to clients and insured parties throughout the claims process.
  • Participate in after-hours customer service when required.
  • Comply with work standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Support field requests across Hamilton, Burlington, Niagara, and Haldimand/Norfolk areas.

Job description

  • Adjust property claims actively while maximizing business development opportunities
  • Market and follow up on opportunities in a timely manner
  • Contact and follow up promptly with policyholders and claimants

  • Use supplied technology, including Docusketch, to scope damages and establish quantum
  • Identify exposures and recommend reserves and required investigations
  • Prepare action plans and negotiate fair and satisfactory settlements
  • Provide high-level customer service to clients and insured parties throughout the claims process
  • Participate in after-hours customer service when required
  • Perform assigned duties in compliance with established work standards, policies, and procedures
  • Support field requests across the Hamilton, Burlington, Niagara, and Haldimand/Norfolk areas
Requirements
  • Completion of high school education
  • University degree or post-secondary education related to insurance preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and OneDrive
  • At least 5–10 years’ relevant experience in claims adjusting
  • Ongoing commitment to education and learning
  • Ontario licensing required; multi-jurisdictional licensing is an asset
  • Effective analytical skills, including identification of cause-and-effect dynamics
  • Ability to draw valid conclusions and communicate them effectively
  • Ability to interpret complex legal documents
  • Ability to perform and understand advanced numerical calculations, including comparative information analysis
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, interviewing, and negotiating
  • Ability to adapt communication style to the audience
  • Proactive and positive customer-service approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills for handling conflict and difficult situations
