Job summary

Primaris REIT is hiring a Property Accountant for our Halifax Shopping Centre in Halifax, ON. The role emphasizes timely reporting, budgeting, and collaboration with auditors to ensure accurate financial statements for a retail real estate portfolio.

The position may be filled at Property Accountant or Senior Property Accountant level based on experience, with compensation aligned accordingly. Strong Excel and Yardi experience are preferred, and bilingual English/French ability is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required or in progress.
• Proficiency with Excel and ERP systems (Yardi preferred).
• Bilingual French/English is an asset; strong interpersonal skills required.

Responsibilities

• Monthly reporting and month-end close, variance analysis, GST & QST returns, bank reconciliations.
• Prepare quarter-end audit packages and liaise with auditors.
• Draft annual financial statements and cost statements.
• Prepare operating and capital budgets and CAM recoveries.
• Assist with acquisitions integration and other duties.

This opportunity may be filled at either the Property Accountant or Senior Property Accountant level. Candidates will be assessed based on their experience, expertise, and ability to perform the responsibilities of the role, with title and compensation aligned accordingly. As the Property Accountant, you will provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients and provide efficient and accurate accounting of a retail real estate portfolio owned by Primaris. Your communication skills and positive attitude will contribute to the success of our team. Your main organizational task will be to provide timely and accurate reporting and budgeting by:

• Monthly reporting, including month-end closes, actual to budget variance analysis, GST & QST returns, bank reconciliations, etc.
• Prepare quarter-end audit packages and liaise with auditors
• Draft annual financial statements and cost statements
• Prepare annual tenant operating cost, CAM recoveries and realty tax billings
• Prepare operating and capital budgets
• Assist with the integration of new property acquisitions as required
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Earned or are enrolled in a program to achieve a professional accounting designation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• ERP system experience an asset (Yardi Preferred)

• Build positive relationships and demonstrate commitment, effort and a "take charge" attitude
• Produce accurate work with attention to detail and consistently meet deadlines
