Job summary

March of Dimes Canada is hiring a Skills Trainer to provide individualized support for Project SEARCH interns. You will collaborate with instructors, managers, and host business staff to design and implement internships that build marketable, competitive skills for employment.

The role prioritizes accessibility, inclusion, and adherence to policies. The position requires a degree or diploma in Social Services or related field, plus a minimum of one year in training/coaching and assessment.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Social Services, Developmental Service Worker, or other relevant education.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with training/coaching, systematic instruction, job, and task analysis.
  • Experience in employment counseling is considered an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license and use of car is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with instructors, managers, mentors, and interns.
  • Identify and implement training strategies with classroom and host staff.
  • Develop internship sites to build marketable skills leading to employment.
  • Support interns learning and ensure productivity and quality standards.
  • Facilitate communication with steering committee and ensure progress is reported.

Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs.

The Skills Trainer provides individualized support for Project SEARCH interns and helps them acquire competitive and marketable skills. In collaboration with the teacher/business liaison provided by the school board, the Skills Trainer supports with identifying and developing internships that offer a variety of opportunities to build marketable, competitive skills that lead to employment.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with Project SEARCH Instructor, internship department managers/mentors, co-workers, family members, SchoolBoard of personneland Project SEARCH management.
  • Identify and implement training strategies and/or services in coordination with theProject SEARCH instructor and host business staff.
  • In coordination with the instructor and business liaison, identify and developinternship sites that offer a variety of opportunities to build marketable, competitive skills that lead to employment.
  • Consult with host business department employees on tools and techniques that support intern learning and success.
  • Develop task analysis to support the intern to learn and perform to requiredproductivity and quality standards.
  • Learn the site culture, rules and expectations within each department and assist interns to understand and comply.
  • Support with any accessibility andaccommodationneeds,ensuring that theMODC accommodation policies are adhered to.
  • Participatingin training internsingrooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and work/social behavior as they relate to successful employment.
  • Assess interns progress and give feedback tointernsand team members.
  • Ensure compliance and adhere to all laws, regulations, as well as internal MODCpolicies and procedures.
  • Complete reports, case noting, and assessments as required.
  • Assist with completing tools such as the VocFit Assessment to determine theabilities of the intern, the demands of the internship tasks, and help the team tomake meaningful internship matches.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication with all members of the steering committee to
  • ensure internsprogress, challenges or changes to the model fidelity arecommunicated.
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Social Services, Developmental Service Worker, or other relevant education.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with training/coaching, systematic instruction,job, and task analysis.
  • Experience in employment counseling is considered an asset.
  • A validdriver’s license and use of car is necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-directedness and initiative when given a varietyofresponsibilities and assigned tasks.
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve with a team of service providers.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills which promote personal relationships with interns, families,UofG, Project SEARCH team members, and partneragencies.
  • Computer literate (MS Office 2000 and Windows).

Salary: $26.67 per hour
