Job summary

NSB Omega is seeking a Project Manager - Structures for a major utilities client in St. John’s, NL. The role focuses on water control structures with potential assignments to other projects based on priorities.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure safe, on-time, within-budget project delivery. Remote site coordination and strong contractor oversight are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and P.Eng registered with PEGNL
• PMP or similar project management certification preferred
• Strong knowledge of procurement, contracting, and contract negotiation
• Experience with water control structures and dams is an asset
• Experience managing projects in remote locations and multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from initiation to completion, ensuring delivery on time and within budget
• Develop and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets with regular reporting to NL Hydro leadership
• Coordinate with engineering teams to meet standards and codes
• Oversee tender packages and participate in contract evaluation and award processes
• Manage project teams including engineers, contractors, and consultants
• Conduct site visits to monitor progress and support site teams
• Identify and mitigate project risks and maintain risk register
• Facilitate cross-stakeholder communication and reflect changes in budget/schedule
• Ensure contractor compliance with NL Hydro policies and safety plans
• Lead project closeout and knowledge sharing for continuous improvement
• Submit timesheets and documentation per project management requirements
• Other duties as assigned

Assignment Description

Our Client and its subsidiaries are seeking a Project Manager - Structures for their Non-Regulated team. The position will focus primarily on projects relating to water control structures at ChurchillFallsbutmaybeassignedotherprojectworkbasedonbusinessprioritiesandasneed arises.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leadprojectsfrominitiationtocompletion,ensuringprojectsaredeliveredsafely,on time, and within budget;
• Developandmanageprojectscopes,schedules,andbudgets,includingregular reporting to NL Hydro leadership;
• Coordinatewithengineeringteamstoensureengineeringdesigns,specifications,and deliverables meet corporate standards and applicable codes.
• Overseeandreviewtenderpackages,participateincontractevaluationandaward processes, ensuring quality and value for NL Hydro;
• Manageprojectteams,includinginternalengineers,contractors,andconsultants,to achieve project objectives;
• Conductregularsitevisitstomonitorconstructionactivities,verifyprojectprogress,and provide support to site teams;
• Identify,evaluate,andmitigateprojectrisks,andmaintaintheprojectriskregister throughout the project lifecycle;
• Facilitateeffectivecommunicationacrossstakeholders,ensuringthatapprovedproject changes are reflected in the active budget and schedule;
• EnsurecontractorcompliancewithNLHydro’sContractorSafetyManagementPlanand corporate and Contractor HSE policies;
• Leadprojectcloseoutactivities,ensuringsmoothtransitionofcompletedassetsto operations;
• Promotecontinualimprovementthroughlessonslearned,innovativeapproaches,and sharing best practices with other project teams;
• SubmittimesheetsanddocumentationinaccordancewithNLHydro’sproject management requirements;

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)association.Equivalentprofessionalengineering(P.Eng)registrationcanbe considered;
• ProjectManagementProfessional(PMP)certificationfromtheProjectManagement Institute (PMI) or other similar Project Management certification is preferred;
• Strongknowledgeoftheprocurementandcontractingprocess,contractormanagement and contract negotiation skills;
• Strongexperienceinprojectcontrols,planning,scheduling,andestimatingis considered an asset;
• Experiencewithmanagingprojectsforwatercontrolstructuresanddamsisconsidered an asset;
• Provenexperiencemanagingcomplexprojectsinremote locations;
• Strong background in coordinating and managing multidisciplinary engineering project teams(e.g.,electrical,civil,mechanical)andcollaboratingwithdesignandconstruction groups;
• Demonstratedabilitytomanageprojectsonoperationalindustrialsites,including contractor supervision and adherence to site-specific safety requirements;
