Job description

I am working with a valued client, a major Oil & Gas player, who are seeking an experienced Mega Projects Project Manager to join their Calgary team on a long‑term, multi‑year contract basis. The successful candidate will have proven experience leading large‑scale facilities projects with capital values in the hundreds of millions up to approximately $1B, across the full project lifecycle.

Role overview

The Mega Projects Project Manager will be responsible for leading complex energy facilities projects from early development through engineering, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and handover. The role involves multi‑disciplinary coordination, structured project governance, international fabrication, and high‑risk construction scopes. It is suited to a senior project professional who has directly managed major capital facilities projects, not discipline leads or pipeline‑only backgrounds.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead full lifecycle delivery of major facilities projects, including concept development, feasibility, FEED, detailed engineering, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and turnover to operations.
  • Establish and maintain project governance covering scope, change management, risk management, cost control, schedule control, and structured reporting.
  • Direct multi‑disciplinary teams across engineering, project controls, procurement, construction, commissioning, and external consultants.
  • Develop execution plans, contracting strategies, and procurement approaches appropriate for large‑scale facilities work.
  • Manage EPF/EPC contractors, fabrication partners, and major equipment suppliers, including oversight of international manufacturing and logistics.
  • Oversee front‑end engineering deliverables, constructability assessments, execution sequencing, and commissioning readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, engineering standards, safety expectations, and quality specifications throughout all phases.
  • Coordinate with operations, regulatory groups, commercial teams, and other internal stakeholders to maintain alignment and support timely decisions.
  • Provide clear, concise communication to technical teams and senior leadership, including regular updates on progress, risks, and required actions.
  • Identify gaps in processes or tools and implement practical improvements without disrupting project progress.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration in Alberta or British Columbia.
  • 10–15+ years of project management experience in large‑scale oil and gas or petrochemical facilities projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership of projects with capital values in the $500M–$1B+ range.
  • Proven experience progressing projects through front‑end development (concept, feasibility, FEED) and into execution and commissioning.
  • Experience with EPF/EPC contracting models and major fabrication programs, including international vendors.
  • Strong capability in project controls, cost management, scheduling (Primavera or equivalent), and structured reporting.
  • Effective communication skills suited to technical teams, construction personnel, and senior leadership.
  • Solid understanding of Western Canadian regulatory, safety, and engineering standards.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and fabrication facilities as required.
Work arrangement
  • Hybrid: four days in office, one day remote
