Job description

Location: Calgary, AB (Primarily Office-Based)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Employee or Contractor Considered

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of EPCM projects across oil and gas facilities, with a focus on gas processing, heavy oil, and brownfield processing projects.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys balancing technical engineering, client relationships, and project execution. You’ll take ownership of projects from early planning through engineering, procurement, construction support, commissioning, and final close-out while working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams.

This isn’t a traditional project management position. We’re looking for someone who is technically engaged, comfortable reviewing engineering deliverables, and willing to lead from the front when projects demand it.

What You’ll Lead
  • Project Delivery
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of small to mid-sized EPCM projects within oil and gas facilities
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, risk, and overall client expectations
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, forecasts, resource plans, budgets, and risk registers
  • Manage project changes through established change management processes
Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical oversight and accountability for engineering deliverables, including:
  • P&IDs
  • Shutdown keys
  • Line lists
  • Engineering drawings
  • Specifications
  • Supporting project documentation
  • Review and approve engineering documentation to ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and project quality expectations
  • Remain actively involved in technical problem-solving throughout project execution
Team Leadership
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams including:
  • Process
  • Mechanical
  • Piping
  • Electrical
  • Instrumentation
  • Civil/Structural
  • Drafting
  • Assign work, monitor progress, remove obstacles, and ensure deliverables are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule
  • Mentor Project Engineers, Engineers-in-Training (EITs), and technical team members through regular coaching and career development
Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary client contact throughout project delivery
  • Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and responsive project management
  • Lead project meetings and communicate progress related to scope, schedule, budget, risk, safety, and key milestones
  • Coordinate with procurement teams, vendors, consultants, inspectors, and construction personnel to ensure successful execution
Construction & Commissioning Support
  • Support field execution, commissioning activities, and project turnover
  • Coordinate engineering support during construction
  • Lead project close-out activities, including:
  • As-built documentation
  • Punch list management
  • Lessons learned
  • Final reporting
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of engineering, EPCM project management, or project delivery experience
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Applied Science, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • P.Eng. or P.L.Eng. registration with APEGA strongly preferred
  • CET candidates with significant EPCM project management experience will also be considered
  • Strong experience delivering projects within:
  • Oil & Gas Facilities
  • Gas Processing
  • Heavy Oil
  • Brownfield or Greenfield Processing Facilities
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams while maintaining strong client relationships
  • Comprehensive understanding of:
  • Project planning
  • Cost control
  • Scheduling
  • Engineering deliverables
  • Project execution
  • Change management
  • Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
What Sets You Apart
  • You’re technically credible and comfortable taking ownership of engineering deliverables—not just managing schedules.
  • You build strong relationships with clients while keeping multidisciplinary teams aligned.
  • You enjoy mentoring engineers and helping develop future technical leaders.
  • You’re collaborative, approachable, and lead through influence rather than hierarchy.
  • You thrive in fast-paced environments where priorities shift, and no two projects are the same.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Join a growing EPCM team delivering technically challenging oil and gas projects across Western Canada.
  • Lead projects from concept through commissioning with real ownership and influence.
  • Work alongside experienced engineering professionals in a collaborative, technically focused environment.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and technical expertise.
  • Flexible employment options (employee or contractor).
  • Comprehensive benefits available from day one for employees.
  • Four weeks of vacation for senior hires.
  • Paid overtime – every hour worked is compensated.
  • Opportunity to participate in an employee share purchase program.
