Halton Region, located in Oakville, Ontario, is seeking a Project Manager I to lead multi-modal transportation studies and support growth across the Region. The role focuses on corridor planning, feasibility studies, and integration with environmental considerations to sustain a connected regional network.

You will work with staff and external partners, applying engineering knowledge while contributing to policy development and staff reports for Regional Council.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Engineering and/or Environmental Studies/Sciences.
  • 3–5 years experience planning municipal multi-modal transportation infrastructure.
  • Experience with traffic analyses using Synchro, EMME/GTAv4, ARCADY.
  • Familiarity with Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process.
  • Experience with corridor planning studies for road widenings, new corridors, transit infrastructure, active transportation.
  • Ability to apply TAC/OTM guidelines and best practices; preliminary design experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake and/or assist with Corridor Planning Studies, applying a multi-modal approach.
  • Carry out and/or review area or corridor-specific technical transportation studies.
  • Provide input and technical support on Regional projects and external collaborations.
  • Build professional relationships with Halton Region staff and stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing multi-modal transportation procedures and staff reports for Regional Council.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Transportation Planning, the Project Manager I is responsible for undertaking and/or supporting Region-wide multi-modal transportation studies to support growth in the Region. Key undertakings include applying engineering knowledge and skills in undertaking and/or reviewing Corridor Planning Studies, feasibility studies, as well as other transportation-related studies to support a multi-modal Regional transportation network.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Undertake and/or assist with Corridor Planning Studies, applying a multi-modal and environmentally responsible lense as it relates to the environment, including but not limited to natural, socio-economic and cultural/archaeological environments.
  • Carry out and/or review area or corridor-specific technical transportation network studies, feasibility studies or other transportation-related studies.
  • Provide transportation-related input and technical support on Regional projects, as well as projects undertaken by others, such as the Local Municipalities, Metrolinx, Ministry of Transportation to support a seamless and connected multi-modal transportation network across the Region.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with staff of Halton Region through developed and demonstrated professionalism, awareness, political acuity and responsive communications.
  • Assist with the development of multi-modal transportation and mobility procedures/policies, preparation of staff reports and recommendations to Regional Council on matters dealing with transportation planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering and/or Environmental Studies/Sciences, along with Certification in Ontario as a Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng.) or a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.).
  • Minimum three to five (3-5) years experience planning municipal multi-modal transportation infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in traffic related analyses including for example, computer software and output for Synchro, EMME/GTAv4, ARCADY, including intersection and/or corridor-specific analysis.
  • Familiarity with the principles and practices of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process and recent changes related to requirements under the Environmental Assessment Act.
  • Experience with Corridor Planning studies for road widenings, new corridors, transit infrastructure, active transportation, and/or localized improvements, including the impacts to the environment, including but not limited to the natural, socio-economic and cultural/archaeological environments.
  • Experience in applying multi-modal transportation/mobility industry best practices, standards and guidelines (for example, TAC and OTM). Preliminary design experience an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and detailed-oriented.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Travel will be required; incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment.
