Join Alectra Energy Solutions as aProject Manager, Construction & Operations and be responsible for the construction and operations of Alectra’s energy solution projects including solar, CHP, energy storage, natural gas generators, net metering and microgrid projects to assure that design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operations of energy solution projects are completed in an accurate, timely, and cost-effective manner. The Project Manager will also contribute to the design and sales activities of Alectra Energy Solution’s projects by reviewing and or creating technical feasibility project assessments.

What you’ll do

  • The Project Manager will be charged with developing and maintaining relationships with key suppliers and contractors, managing budgets and ensuring energy solution projects are completed on schedule and on budget
  • Support the development of detailed energy solution project management plans, construction plans, project schedules, project budgets, and appropriate procedures to enable projects to meet their respective financial requirements.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge and understanding of EPC contracts for the projects; prevent escalation of contractual disputes between the company and consultants/contractor(s) through effective contract management.
  • Prepare, monitor and keep updated on all active projects, implementation a schedule integrating the EPC schedule with the schedule of permits, authorizations and other contractual obligations on a portfolio of projects basis.
  • Prepare appropriate and timely project management reports on a portfolio and project basis to communicate the status of individual projects and the entire program, including timelines and budgets tracking.
  • Review preliminary engineering design, detailed specifications, and develops construction and supply contracts as well as operations and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate and manage agreements and relations with local distribution companies affiliated with the distributed energy resources.
  • Manage operational aspects of project's planning and implementation, enforcing project standards and safety while minimizing company exposure to development and installation risks including addressing questions and concerns from EPC and Maintenance contractors.
  • Monitor and Manage day to day operations and maintenance needs of the distributed energy resources assets and equipment including managing facility alerts and troubleshooting system failures and managing maintenance contracts with third parties, vendors and suppliers in ensuring system performance is maintained. Assist in maintaining all energy project assets operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Complete field and site visits as required to ensure projects are maintained with respect to design drawings, specifications, agreement obligations, safety requirements, oversee project testing and commissioning, operations, maintenance and project timelines.
  • Collect required data to prepare weekly, monthly, and annual performance reports and key performance index reports on assets and equipment as required. Assist in maintaining and completing forecasts and monitoring software forecast project data inputs
  • Develop and assume the role as Alectra’s primary relationship manager for obtaining, maintaining and audit compliance for contracts, with the appropriate provincial government agency developing a trusted and credible relationship with those agencies. Including utilities OEB, and the IESO.
  • Contribute to Sales by supporting the business development of energy solutions projects. Assistance on any technical, commercial, and economic components as well as any support in funding application process in order to develop energy solution opportunities for Alectra.

Who you are

Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, or business or a related field with equivalent experience;
  • Member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario considered an asset
  • PMP accreditation would be considered an asset;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the various government sponsored renewable energy programs and processes, energy industry and regulatory framework.
  • Demonstrated ability for project and portfolio management capability of construction projects.
  • Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, energy storage, gas generators, microgrid design, operation, components or performance modeling.
  • Knowledge of OHSA and safety procedures related to energy projects
  • Industrial Electrical license considered an asset

Experience

  • Requires 3 years of technical, engineering, facilities management, or construction experience including project management experience.
  • Experience is required in project management in building construction, energy solution design or assessment, electric utility or cogeneration experience or solar or wind generation project management design, or project management experience of these.
  • Experience with EPC type projects is required.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with external consultants, Utility personal, building owners, landlords and facility operators.
  • Experience managing contractors and consultants in the construction of renewable generation plants, energy storage projects, microgrid projects and energy solutions projects.
  • Experience overseeing contracts with external suppliers/vendors;
  • Ability to create RFPs and RFQs, and administer procurement and construction contracts.
  • Proven analytical skills for problem solving;
  • Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Equipment
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills;
  • Skilled in planning projects and using MS Project; (or other similar project software)
  • Skilled in using MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio and engineering design software.
