Job summary

ALTEN Canada is seeking a Project Manager to lead GMP-compliant facilities projects at client sites in Canada. You will oversee scope, timelines, budgets, and coordinating with contractors, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance and project success.

Ideal candidates have GMP facilities experience and a proven ability to manage complex construction and validation work, including GMP cleanliness and equipment integration.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of GMP facilities experience.
  • PM or coordination on projects $100k+.
  • Strong communication with vendors and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • The PM will regularly review the project scope, timelines, and milestones to ensure that the project is on track.

Context of the project

The individual will lead engineering related projects at Client site such as

  • Pharmaceutical facility expansions
  • Construction projects (office renovations)
Day-to-day activities
  • The PM will regularly review the project scope, timelines, and milestones to ensure that the project is on track.
  • Coordination with Contractors and Vendors: They liaise with construction teams, architects, equipment suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Schedule Management: Ensuring that all teams (construction, electrical, HVAC, etc.) are aligned on schedules and that dependencies between tasks are well managed to avoid delays.
  • Monitor Expenses: They review and manage the project’s budget, ensuring costs remain within approved limits.
  • Ensure GMP Compliance: In a pharmaceutical facility, expansions must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The PM ensures that the design and construction meet regulatory guidelines for cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Inspections and Audits: They may coordinate internal audits or external regulatory inspections (Health Canada, FDA) to ensure that everything meets pharmaceutical compliance requirements.
  • Documentation Management: Managing detailed documentation (design specs, validation reports, as-built drawings, etc.) to ensure everything is traceable and complies
  • Site Walkthroughs and Inspections: Regular walkthroughs with contractors ensure that work is progressing according to plan, and that quality and safety standards are upheld. This includes checking on equipment installations, construction progress, and other key milestones.
  • Review of Engineering Designs: PMs often review and approve technical designs (HVAC systems, cleanroom designs, water and waste systems, etc.) to ensure compliance with industry standards and operational requirements.
  • Equipment Integration: Coordinating the integration of pharmaceutical equipment (autoclaves, filtration systems, reactors) into the facility layout to ensure operational efficiency
Candidate requirements
Must-haves
  • 3-5 years of experience in the GMP environment as a facilities engineer or project management related to facilities in the pharma GMP environment
  • Must have PM or Project coordinator experience working on projects $100k+
  • Must have great communication skills and outgoing personality as they will be interacting with multiple vendors, contractors
Nice to have

P.Eng, PMP

  • Tools / software / methodology / certification: MS Office, knowledge of AutoCad is nice to have
  • Soft skills: Autonomous, must be able to work on their own. Looking for someone who has a problem-solver mindset.
  • Seniority level: 3-5 years of experience

In accordance with our compensation practices, ALTEN is providing the salary range associated with this opportunity. Final compensation will be determined after considering several factors, including professional experience, skill set, educational background, certifications, and geographic market conditions. The current target salary range for this role is $93,000 - $98,000 per year.
