MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Project Manager for a 1-year contract in Edmonton to support a transmission program delivering multiple high‑voltage infrastructure projects. Job description

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Project Manager on behalf of our client for a 1-year contract opportunity in Edmonton.

The Project Manager will support a transmission program delivering multiple high-voltage infrastructure projects, including the construction of new assets and replacement of existing transmission infrastructure. This role is responsible for the full project lifecycle, from project inception and planning through procurement, construction, and close-out.

The ideal candidate will bring strong construction project management experience, preferably within utilities, electrical transmission, or energized substation environments. This role requires someone comfortable managing multiple projects while overseeing budgets, schedules, procurement, safety, stakeholder coordination, project controls, and field execution.

Location: Edmonton, AB

Job Type: 1-year contract

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm; hybrid work program

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of projects of varying size and complexity from project inception through project close-out.
  • Support the safe execution of projects through hazard identification and safe work planning at all phases of the project.
  • Ensure conformance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and internal HSE policies and procedures.
  • Manage project budgets and maintain up-to-date project forecasts.
  • Complete internal project and budget change approvals in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project schedules.
  • Coordinate with engineering, project controls, construction crews, and other internal stakeholders to support efficient project execution.
  • Lead the development of Requests for Proposal and support contract formation for the procurement of required goods and services.
  • Support major equipment and construction services procurement, including tendering, proposal evaluation, contract negotiations, and contract administration.
  • Maintain accurate project records, reporting, and governance documentation.
  • Work within project systems including Oracle Projects, IVARA Work Management, eScheduler, SharePoint, and ProjectWise.
  • Participate in field activities including project field kick-offs, project walk-downs, and HSE inspections during construction.
  • Support project permitting, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Provide regular project updates to the Manager.
  • Complete required monthly time reporting and supporting documentation.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the role as assigned.
Qualifications
Must-Haves
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a relevant technical certificate or diploma with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of project management experience in a construction environment.
  • Experience with utility construction in energized substations.
  • Knowledge of hazards and appropriate safe work practices associated with energized electrical environments.
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasts, schedules, and change controls.
  • Experience coordinating engineering, construction, project controls, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Understanding and experience with project permitting, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong understanding of foundational project management processes and procedures aligned with the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
  • Experience with major equipment and construction services procurement, including RFP development, tendering, evaluation, contract negotiations, and contract administration.
  • Ability to participate in field activities including project kick-offs, walk-downs, and HSE inspections.
  • Ability to work from the Edmonton office under the stated hybrid schedule.
  • Ability to complete the following mandatory training within one month of contract execution:
    • Construction Safety Training System.
    • Electrical Safety Training System.
    • Contractor Management.
    • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Worker Education.
    • Hazard Management.
  • All cost and time associated with mandatory training will be the contractor's responsibility.
  • Equivalent third-party or internally delivered training may be considered.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Alberta Electric System Operator project lifecycle.
  • High-voltage transmission project experience.
  • Experience using Oracle Projects, IVARA Work Management, eScheduler, SharePoint, and/or ProjectWise.
  • Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Legislation Awareness training or equivalent.
  • Ground Disturbance 201 or equivalent.
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence or equivalent.
