Valard Construction LP is a premier powerline contractor, serving clients in both public & private sectors. We offer construction services in overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems, substations, fibre optics, as well as substation and transmission foundations.

Reporting to the Director, Substation Construction Services, the Project Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and complete execution of the project to the satisfaction of the Customer. The Project Manager also provides the first contact point for the Customer. The position of Project Manager is important to review progress and guide necessary changes to the execution plan.

KEY (CORE) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Manage Projects Start Up
  2. Help establish resource requirements for projects
  3. Coordinate with customer to determine timing for site work to commence
  4. Establish and prepare reporting requirements for the projects
  5. Coordinate personnel training requirements with Construction Supervisors
  6. Oversee initial startup documents to customers
  7. Coordinate initial start-up meetings for projects
  8. Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables
  9. Lead the planning and implementation of project
  10. Work with Project Coordinators to oversee the detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  11. Successfully manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
  12. Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  13. Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget
  14. Manage Project Execution: Work with Construction Supervisors and team members to ensure successful project execution, providing direction and support
  15. Attend meetings with the customer or internally to communicate project status
  16. Monitor Progress, Costs, Quality, and Scope on projects, addressing deviations and reporting
  17. Prepare and submit weekly reports and monthly progress invoices
  18. Identify concerns and collaborate with senior management to resolve issues
  19. Manage changes to scope, schedule, and costs using verification techniques
  20. Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  21. Project Close-out: Oversee final packages, invoices, and scope/cost/revenue assessments
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Estimating Projects: Provide input, review estimates, assist in proposals
  • Support safety procedures & plans, review submittals and bids with customers
Requirements
Knowledge:
  • B.Sc. in Engineering, Bachelor of Commerce, Construction Management Certificate, or equivalent experience
  • Professional Engineer, CET, or relevant experience is an asset
  • Minimum of 7 years of Project Management experience in construction, especially projects over $20 million
  • Linear construction experience considered an asset
Skills:
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize in a high-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
