Job summary

BPA is a leading engineering firm delivering sustainable design and technical innovation across Canada. The Finance team seeks a skilled Project Controls professional to oversee financial performance, support PMs with insights, and lead reviews on WIP, revenue recognition, and forecasting.

In this role you’ll analyze variances, identify risks, and collaborate with billing to ensure accurate invoicing. A bilingual capability (English/French) is essential for our shared services model.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project control, project accounting, financial analysis, or a similar role, ideally within engineering, construction, consulting, or professional services.
  • Strong understanding of project financial management, including revenue recognition, work in progress (WIP), profitability analysis, forecasting, and project accounting.
  • Strong financial analysis skills with the ability to translate financial information into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with project managers and effectively challenge and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across Finance, operations, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and project files simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial performance of a portfolio of engineering projects, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of project financial data.
  • Act as a financial partner to project managers, providing insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
  • Lead regular project financial reviews with managers, including work in progress (WIP), revenue recognition, profitability, forecasting, and project risks.
  • Analyze project performance against budgets, forecasts, and project progress, identifying trends, variances, and potential financial issues.
  • Proactively identify at-risk projects and work with project managers on appropriate actions related to additional fees, change directives, cost overruns, and other financial risks.
  • Support and challenge project managers in understanding key financial indicators and improving the financial management of their projects.
  • Collaborate closely with billing teams to support accurate and timely invoicing and project follow-up.
  • Contribute to the development of project performance reports, KPIs, forecasts, and quarterly presentations for management.
  • Ensure billable rates and other project financial information are maintained in accordance with contracts and applicable requirements.
  • Participate in month-end closing activities, project accounting reviews, and the preparation of documentation for external audits.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of project control methodologies, financial processes, and project management tools.
  • Support the stabilization and continuous improvement of our ERP and project management systems following implementation.
  • Help develop best practices and increase financial awareness among project managers across the organization.

Your Impact

You will provide financial oversight and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring the accuracy of financial information and helping project teams proactively manage performance and risk.


More specifically, you will:

Profile Sought
