Job summary

NextGen Automation is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Managed IT Services team in Western Canada. The role focuses on delivering technology projects, from infrastructure upgrades to cloud migrations, with hands-on network and server work.

You will collaborate with the Project Manager, Service Desk, and Client Success teams to implement secure, well-documented solutions, ensuring quality handoffs to operations. A strong background in M365, AD, Entra ID, and Azure is essential.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of IT infrastructure or technical project implementation.
• Strong experience with M365, AD, Entra ID, Windows Server.
• Hands-on networking with firewalls, switches, VPNs, and wireless.
• Experience with virtualization (Hyper-V/VMware).
• Knowledge of Azure and cloud infrastructure; relevant certifications noted.

Responsibilities

• Deliver technology projects from planning to completion for customers.

About the Role

As a Project Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering technology projects for our customers. From infrastructure upgrades and cloud migrations to network deployments and cybersecurity implementations, you'll be responsible for the hands-on technical work that brings our customers' technology environments to life.

You'll collaborate with our Project Manager, Service Desk, Centralized Services, and Client Success teams to deliver reliable, secure, and well-documented solutions.

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Technical Projects & Implementations

• Deploy, configure, and migrate servers, networks, workstations, and cloud environments.
• Implement Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune, and related Microsoft technologies.
• Perform infrastructure upgrades, server migrations, Microsoft 365 tenant migrations, and hardware refresh projects.
• Install and configure firewalls, switches, wireless networks, VPNs, and other networking equipment.
• Deploy cybersecurity, endpoint protection, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges throughout project implementations.

Project Delivery & Collaboration

• Work alongside the Project Manager to execute projects within established timelines and scope.
• Participate in technical discovery, implementation planning, and project preparation.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and opportunities to improve project outcomes.
• Communicate project progress, challenges, and technical requirements with internal teams and customers.
• Coordinate technical activities and minimize disruptions during customer implementations.

Documentation & Quality

• Ensure implementations follow NextGen's technical standards and best practices.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, configurations, and implementation records in IT Glue and other platforms.
• Test and validate solutions before completing project deliverables.
• Ensure successful handoffs to our Service Desk and Centralized Services teams.
• Contribute to improving and standardizing deployment procedures, automation, and technical processes.

What You Bring to the Team

• 3-5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or technical project implementation.
• Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Windows Server, and related technologies.
• Hands-on experience with networking, including firewalls, switches, VLANs, VPNs, and wireless infrastructure.
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V and VMware.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud infrastructure; Certifications required: AZ-104, AZ-140, MD-102
• Understanding of cybersecurity, backup, disaster recovery, and endpoint management.
• Experience performing system migrations, infrastructure deployments, and technology upgrades.
• Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers.
• A proactive attitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering quality work.

Bonus Points If You Have

• Previous experience working for a Managed Services Provider (MSP).
• Experience with ConnectWise Manage, IT Glue, and RMM platforms.
• Microsoft certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, or related technologies (Preferred certifications: AZ-305, AZ-800, AZ-108, SC-300 and Nerdio experience).
• Experience with Ubiquiti networking, SentinelOne, Acronis, or Microsoft Intune.
• PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
• Experience managing or executing complex customer migrations and infrastructure projects.
