NextGen Automation | Managed IT Services

Location: Western Canada
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Department: Managed IT Services

About NextGen Automation

NextGen Automation is a leading provider of Managed IT, Cybersecurity, and Managed Print solutions across Western Canada. We are a growing, people-first organization committed to delivering exceptional technology solutions and customer experiences.

At NextGen, we're building a Supercool company where Supercool people do Supercool things. Our team is driven by our core values of “Be Supercool”, “Think Customer First”, “Act with Integrity”, “Be Dedicated” and “Stay Agile”.

We're looking for a motivated, technically skilled Technology Alignment Specialist (TAS) to join our Managed IT Services team and help our customers get the most out of their technology investments.

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced IT professional who enjoys solving problems before they happen? Do you have a passion for technology standards, cybersecurity, and helping businesses build better IT environments?

As a Technology Alignment Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring our customers' technology environments are secure, standardized, reliable, and aligned with industry best practices.

Rather than spending your day responding to support tickets, you'll take a proactive approach to IT management. You'll assess customer environments, identify technical risks, recommend improvements, and work with our internal teams to drive meaningful change.

You'll collaborate closely with our Client Success Managers, Strategic Technology Advisors, Service Desk, Centralized Services, and Professional Services teams to ensure our customers receive consistent, high-quality IT services.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional looking to move beyond traditional reactive support into a more proactive, consultative technical role.

What You'll Be Doing

Technology Assessments & Alignment

  • Conduct regular onsite and remote technology assessments of customer IT environments.
  • Evaluate networks, servers, endpoints, Microsoft 365, security, backups, and infrastructure against NextGen's established technology standards.
  • Identify technical deficiencies, outdated systems, security vulnerabilities, and operational risks.
  • Document findings and develop clear, actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Track customer progress toward achieving technology standards.
  • Identify potential technology issues before they become service disruptions.
  • Review cybersecurity configurations, patching, backup systems, endpoint protection, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Identify recurring technical problems and recommend long‑term solutions.
  • Prioritize technical risks and coordinate remediation recommendations with the appropriate internal teams.
  • Validate that completed improvements meet NextGen's technical standards.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to‑date customer technology documentation.
  • Prepare technology alignment reports outlining technical findings, risks, and recommended improvements.
  • Track outstanding technical deficiencies and remediation progress.
  • Ensure assessments and documentation are completed consistently using established tools and processes.
  • Work closely with Client Success Managers and Strategic Technology Advisors to support customer technology planning and roadmaps.
  • Provide technical insights that help customers make informed technology decisions.
  • Collaborate with Service Desk and Centralized Services teams to reduce recurring support issues.
  • Support the development and improvement of NextGen's technology standards and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and improved service delivery.

What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3–5+ years of hands‑on experience in IT support, systems administration, infrastructure, or Managed IT Services.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, and Windows endpoints.
  • Solid understanding of networking technologies, including firewalls, switches, wireless networks, VPNs, and VLANs.
  • Experience with backup technologies, virtualization, endpoint protection, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical assessment skills.
  • Excellent documentation, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer environments and competing priorities.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for improving technology environments.
  • Ability to travel to customer locations as required.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience working for a Managed Service Provider (MSP).
  • Experience with ConnectWise, IT Glue, and Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) platforms.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Intune, Azure, and Microsoft security technologies.
  • Experience conducting IT audits, technical assessments, or technology alignment reviews.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks such as CIS Controls and NIST.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA, or Cisco.

What Makes You Successful

You're someone who sees the bigger picture and understands that great IT service isn't just about fixing problems — it's about preventing them.

You're naturally curious, detail‑oriented, and enjoy digging into technical environments to understand how things work and where they can be improved.

You take pride in producing accurate documentation, communicating clear recommendations, and following through on your commitments.

Most importantly, you enjoy working with others, sharing knowledge, and making a meaningful difference for the customers and teams you support.

Why Join NextGen?
