CAMH is seeking a Project Director to lead the Phase 1D Research project within the Redevelopment Office. The role requires hands-on project management across planning, design, construction and closeout, with a focus on risk mitigation and stakeholder alignment.
The ideal candidate has 15+ years in large-scale construction, preferably healthcare, and strong contract management, leadership, and communication skills. Bilingualism is a plus and the position is based at the Queen Street site.
Job DescriptionCAMH sits on a 27 acre site which has been redeveloped in accordance with its Master Plan over a 25 year period. Three phases of redevelopment have been completed/ occupied, with the 4th and final phase underway. Phase 1D is comprised of two projects;

Phase 1D Forensics (550,000 sqft) is a DBF projects currently under construction. Occupancy is anticipated in 2029, with trailing activities to be completed by 2030.
Phase 1D Research (400,000 sqft) is a Construction Management project currently under construction with occupancy anticipated for late 2026/early 2027.
This opportunity will support the Phase 1D Research project.
Reporting to the Senior Project Director, Infrastructure/Project Management/Construction, the Project Director, will be responsible for providing hands on project management leadership during the planning, design, construction and close out stages of the Phase 1D Research Project. Excellent managerial, technical, project controls and contractual knowledge will significantly assist you in contributing to design while mitigating overall project risk during all stages. Hands on direct project experience is critical as is your ability to manage stakeholder expectations to ensure project success. Experience in municipal planning processes is very desirable.
The Project Director will develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure value for money is obtained and a collaborative management approach is undertaken with our construction partners and service providers. During design, this position will play a key role in developing the technical requirements and performance specifications. During construction the Project Director will be responsible for site reviews, schedule review, monthly project status updates, contract administration, leading and attending meetings, deficiency reviews and rectification, commissioning, and contract closeout. As a result of overlapping accountabilities within the Redevelopment Office, the resulting matrix type structure will enable the Project Director to have oversight of individuals on the project for whom they are not accountable. Examples of the areas of oversight may include FF&E & Occupancy Planning.

5-7 years of progressive experience playing a key role in large scale ($50M+), complex healthcare infrastructure projects.
Previous work experience with a general contractor is preferred as is a thorough knowledge of contract management in diverse environments
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project
Demonstrated experience with document storage management via MS SharePoint
Experience with scheduling software considered an asset.
Experience working with diverse clients and stakeholders
Analytical problem-solving ability
Able to prioritize and manage competing deadlines
Attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize complex data
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills (e.g. interacting and gathering requirements, presentations, report writing)
Strong organization skills; able to receive tasks from supervisor and formulate logical sequence of activities to achieve the task.
A Bachelor Degree in Engineering or a related field is required. The ideal incumbent will have a minimum of 15 years of work experience in large scale ($50m+) construction, preferably related to Construction Management & AFP projects. Previous work experience with a general contractor is preferred as is a thorough knowledge of contract management in diverse environments.
The successful candidate will possess excellent customer relationship skills, negotiations, team work skills, strong business acumen, demonstrated leadership skills, strategic thinking skills, project management skills, strong computer skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset. Experience working within the healthcare environment is preferred.
