CAMH sits on a 27 acre site which has been redeveloped in accordance with its Master Plan over a 25 year period. Three phases of redevelopment have been completed/occupied, with the 4th and final phase underway. Phase 1D is comprised of two projects;

  • Phase 1D Forensics (550,000 sqft) is a DBF project currently at 50% Design Development, with construction underway. Occupancy is anticipated in 2029, with trailing activities to be completed by 2030.
  • Phase 1D Research (400,000 sqft) is a Stipulated Sum/Construction Management project currently under construction with occupancy anticipated for late 2026/early 2027.

Reporting to the Senior Project Director, Infrastructure/Project Management/Construction, the Project Director will be responsible for providing hands‑on project management leadership during all stages of select Redevelopment Projects. Excellent managerial, technical, and contractual knowledge will significantly assist you in contributing to design and interface strategy while mitigating overall project risk during all stages. Hands‑on direct project experience is critical as is your ability to manage stakeholder expectations to ensure project success. Experience in municipal planning processes is very desirable. This role will support both the Forensic and Research projects.

We are seeking a full‑time, permanent Project Director who will develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure value for money is obtained and a collaborative management approach is undertaken with our construction partners and service providers. This role will lead the development of documentation for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) and lead the approval processes with the AHJ’s, including the City of Toronto, Toronto Hydro, Enbridge etc., and obtain all planning approvals necessary for the procurement stage. The Project Director will lead the review process of bidder submittals and perform review of their portfolio. The Project Director will lead and perform quality control on all changes issued to the bidder. During construction the Project Director will be responsible for design documents and construction documents for their portfolio, including building systems and infrastructure design development and integration, site reviews, monthly project status updates, contract administration. Additionally the Project Director will lead and attend meetings, lead the deficiency reviews and rectification process, along with commissioning, ICT installation and testing, claim management, schedule management, change management, hospital testing. The Project Director will lead all interim/substantial/final completions and contract closeout. The Project Director will be responsible for direct reports, some working exclusively on this project other shared across projects.

The Project Director will lead the stakeholder relationship and retain accountability for the progression of the Project implementation. The Project Director will provide support for recommendations to Governance to enable decision making. The Project Director will provide leadership in developing project documentation and the contract for the Project.

As a result of overlapping accountabilities within the Redevelopment Office, the resulting matrix type structure will enable the Project Director to have oversight of individuals on the project for whom they are not accountable. Examples of the areas of oversight may include Contract Administration & Occupancy Planning.

Job Requirements:

A Bachelor Degree in Engineering or a related field is required. The ideal incumbent will have 15 years of work experience in large scale ($50m+) construction, preferably related to P3 projects. Previous work experience with a general contractor is preferred as is a thorough knowledge of contract management in diverse environments.

The successful candidate will possess excellent customer relationship skills, negotiation skills, teamwork skills, strong business acumen, demonstrated leadership skills, strategic thinking skills, project management skills, strong computer skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite is required. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and communities is essential.

Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset. Experience working within the healthcare environment is preferred.
