Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Architecture or related discipline.
  • Relevant construction or technical qualifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in a General Contractor environment will be considered alongside formal qualifications.
  • Certifications relating to Health & Safety, project management or construction would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee multiple construction projects from planning through to completion.
  • Provide leadership, direction and accountability to project management and field teams.
  • Maintain oversight of programme, cost, quality, risk and overall project performance.
  • Take practical responsibility for P&L, forecasting, budgets, cost control and margin performance.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and ensure effective management of variations and change orders.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with clients and act as a senior point of contact.
  • Support business development activities, proposals, tenders and client presentations.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and help secure new project work.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contractual, regulatory and company requirements.
  • Maintain a strong culture of Health & Safety, quality and risk management.
  • Develop, coach and motivate project teams while promoting collaboration across the business.
  • Resolve complex operational and commercial issues and ensure appropriate escalation where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement across project delivery and commercial performance.

Job description

About the Company:

An established and growing organization is seeking an experienced Project Director to provide senior leadership across a diverse portfolio of construction projects. This is an opportunity for a commercially minded construction professional from a General Contractor background who can successfully manage multiple projects, lead high-performing teams, develop strong client relationships and contribute to winning new business.

The Project Director will have responsibility for ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially and to the highest standards, while maintaining strong visibility of overall project and financial performance.

The Role:

The Project Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple concurrent projects, working closely with project managers, field teams, clients, subcontractors and senior leadership.

You will be expected to take a hands-on approach to project performance, identifying risks early, resolving challenges and ensuring teams remain focused on programme, quality, safety and profitability. The Project Director will also play an important role in strengthening existing client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional work and new contracts.

What We're Looking For:

The ideal Project Director will be an accomplished construction leader with a proven track record within a General Contractor environment. You will be commercially astute, client-focused and comfortable managing multiple priorities. The ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams while confidently representing the business with senior clients will be essential.

You should have:
  • Significant experience within a General Contractor / General Contracting environment.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of construction project delivery and commercial management.
  • Practical experience with P&L, budgets, forecasting and profitability.
  • Demonstrable experience leading and developing project teams.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience contributing to business development, tenders, proposals or securing additional work.
  • A strong understanding of construction Health & Safety and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • A collaborative, hands-on and commercially driven approach.

Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Architecture or a related discipline preferred.
  • Relevant construction or technical qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable professional experience within a General Contractor environment will be considered alongside formal qualifications.
  • Relevant industry certifications relating to Health & Safety, project management or construction would be beneficial.
