Job summary

Primary Construction Inc. seeks an experienced Project Coordinator / Estimator to support pre-construction activities and active project delivery across Southwestern Ontario.

Based in London, the role involves budgeting, estimating, tendering and procurement while coordinating with Project Managers, site teams, consultants and subcontractors from early budgeting through closeout. The ideal candidate has 3–7+ years in similar roles, with proficiency reading drawings and experience in construction

Qualifications

  • Must have 3–7+ years of experience in project coordination, estimating, project management or similar construction role.
  • Strong reading of architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Solid budgeting, estimating, tendering and procurement experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to work with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with conceptual budgets, preliminary estimates and tender submissions.
  • Review drawings, specs and tender documents to understand scope and requirements.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for labour, materials, equipment and subcontracted work.
  • Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers and review bids.
  • Support project start-up, procurement, subcontract preparation and construction planning.
  • Monitor budgets, forecasts and financial performance; track change orders and invoicing.

As we continue to grow ourSouthwestern Ontario operations, we are seeking an experienced Project Coordinator / Estimatorto join our team based out of ourLondon office. Projects are located throughout Southwestern Ontario and will require occasional travel to project sites as required.

Role Overview

This role is ideal for a construction professional with solid industry experience who is comfortable supporting bothpre-construction activities and the successful delivery of active projects.

The successful candidate will support budgeting, estimating, tendering and procurement while also coordinating and assisting with the management of active construction projects. The position will work closely with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, consultants, clients and subcontractors from early budgeting through construction and project closeout.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of conceptual budgets, preliminary estimates and competitive tender submissions.
  • Review architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications and tender documents to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Complete quantity take-offs and develop detailed cost breakdowns for labour, materials, equipment and subcontracted work.
  • Solicit subcontractor and supplier quotations and assist with reviewing, leveling and comparing bids.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, constructability concerns and potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist with tender clarifications, bid submissions and subcontractor negotiations.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers throughout Southwestern Ontario.
  • Support value engineering, design development and pre-construction planning.
Project Coordination & Management
  • Assist with the day-to-day coordination and management of construction projects from award through completion.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and project stakeholders to maintain project schedules and ensure scope requirements are met.
  • Prepare, review and manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, meeting minutes and closeout documents.
  • Assist with project start-up, procurement, subcontract preparation and construction planning.
  • Monitor project budgets, committed costs, forecasts and overall financial performance.
  • Prepare and track change orders, pricing requests and subcontractor changes.
  • Assist with reviewing subcontractor progress draws and project invoicing.
  • Support the development and maintenance of project schedules and key milestones.
  • Attend client, consultant and subcontractor meetings and assist with communicating project status, priorities and outstanding items.
  • Work closely with Site Superintendents to address coordination issues, drawing conflicts and site requirements.
  • Assist in managing deficiencies, commissioning, turnover and project closeout.
  • Help identify project risks and proactively develop solutions to maintain schedule, budget and quality.
  • Take increasing responsibility for the coordination and management of smaller projects as experience and project requirements allow.
Qualifications
  • 3–7+ years of experiencein project coordination, estimating, project management or a similar construction-related role.
  • Experience within theICI construction industryis strongly preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or a related discipline, or equivalent construction experience.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with construction estimating, budgeting, quantity take-offs and subcontractor tendering.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, procurement and project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts, change management and project cost control.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management software.
  • Experience withBluebeam, Microsoft Project, Jonas Premier and AutoCADis considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to projects throughout Southwestern Ontario as required.
