Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Engineer in Divisional Operational Services (DOS), the Project Coordinator will manage projects related to watercourse and stream valley erosion control, including project management, stakeholder engagement, and technical support for municipal construction, emergency spill response, and sewer infrastructure.

The role involves managing stream restoration projects, protecting infrastructure within ravines and valleys, and collaborating with City divisions, external agencies, contractors, and suppliers.

Major Responsibilities
  • Manage watercourse and stream valley erosion control projects from inception to closeout, including planning, development, review, and management.
  • Provide technical expertise on stream restoration and erosion control, reviewing engineering drawings and documents.
  • Participate in budget preparation and project planning processes.
  • Coordinate procurement, including preparing RFPs, RFQs, and managing contracts with consultants and contractors.
  • Oversee project execution, monitor work quality and timelines, and control expenditures within budgets.
  • Obtain necessary permits and approvals from relevant agencies, understanding processes for Toronto and TRCA regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations related to stormwater, construction, and safety.
  • Analyze data and develop improvements for service delivery and project efficiency.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and cost estimates for projects.
  • Support field investigations, site inspections, and work site supervision, including working in adverse weather and physically demanding conditions.
Effective Communication & Stakeholder Management
  • Coordinate projects ensuring teamwork, quality, and organizational performance.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Represent the City in meetings, public consultations, and discussions.
  • Prepare reports and communication materials as needed.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and supervising technical staff.
Technical Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Stay informed about new techniques, technologies, and standards.
  • Participate in pilot projects and research to improve practices.
Key Qualifications
  • Degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Biology, Ecology, or Geomorphology, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in stream restoration, erosion control, sewer, and water infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with procurement, permits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency with computer software including MS Office, project management tools, CADD, and work order systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work in challenging outdoor environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and permits.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License (G).
Additional Requirements
  • Experience with GIS and project management certification are assets.
  • Ability to obtain a Wastewater Collection Operator’s License.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary projects and manage conflicting priorities.
