Project Controls Analyst
  • Pay Rate: $63.00/hour, depending on experience
  • Contract Length: 1 year
  • Location: Calgary, Alberta

Raise is currently hiring a Project Controls Analyst on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client is a globally competitive integrated energy company that extracts, produces and provides energy from a mix of sources, ranging from oil sands to renewable fuels.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

Project Controls Analyst in this role, will be responsible for coordinating changes in project control processes, systems, and procedures of increasing complexity. You will independently develop estimates under $100M, ensuring alignment with business objectives, scope, schedule, class of plant, and "Best-In-Class" standards.

Your expertise will directly influence operational and financial project outcomes as you maintain project schedules, perform variance analysis, execute benchmarking analytics, and uphold rigorous cost management standards.

Responsibilities
  • Estimating & Cost Management: Independently develop estimates under $100M, ensuring alignment with business objectives, scope, schedule, class of plant, and industry best practices. Maintain technical expertise in the continuous improvement and application of 's Project Cost Management Systems.
  • Scheduling & Planning: Update and maintain project schedules for all phases of complex projects. Incorporate, track, and report on resource-loaded information within all relevant project schedules leveraging a solid understanding of planning processes.
  • Progress, Performance & Auditing: Apply a solid understanding of Progress & Performance metrics to assist in audits of engineering and construction progress. Facilitate project setup in a proper format to support seamless project closeout and benchmarking.
  • Reporting & Variance Analysis: Initiate the preparation, consolidation, and analysis of project reports, assuming responsibility for overall accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Compare planned, incurred, actual, and forecast hours and costs, providing thorough explanations for variances.
  • Change Management & Estimating: Assist in the preparation of potential costs and make sound judgments regarding impacts. Identify and prepare cost estimates for change orders, trends, and extra work orders. Analyze contractor change proposals against Engineering Work Package (EWP) and Construction Work Package (CWP) scope and quantities, escalating execution concerns to leadership.
  • Benchmarking & Data Normalization: Perform multi-step, complex benchmarking analytics utilizing internal data, external databases, studies, and published reports. Synthesize data to identify patterns and draw conclusions supporting actionable recommendations, applying sound data normalization techniques.
  • Decision Making: Make significant decisions and recommendations within authorized limits prescribed by supervisors and company policy, directly influencing operational and financial project results.
Qualifications
  • 5 to 7 years of direct project controls (or closely related industry) experience, paired with full proficiency in project cost management systems, scheduling software, and progress/performance auditing metrics.
  • Cost Estimating & Management ($100M+ Scope): Demonstrated experience independently developing, maintaining, and executing project cost estimates under $100M, ensuring strict alignment with business objectives, scope, schedule, plant class, and industry best practices.
  • Schedule Development & Resource Loading: Proven hands-on experience updating, maintaining, and managing complex project schedules across all project phases, including the integration, tracking, and reporting of resource-loaded information.
  • Variance Analysis & Financial Reporting: Strong capability in preparing, consolidating, and analyzing comprehensive project reports—comparing planned, incurred, actual, and forecast hours/costs with thorough explanations for variances.
  • Change Management & Trend Evaluation: Direct experience analyzing contractor change proposals against Engineering Work Package (EWP) and Construction Work Package (CWP) scope and quantities, preparing cost estimates for change orders and trends, and escalating execution concerns.
  • Benchmarking & Data Normalization: Ability to perform complex, multi-step benchmarking analytics using internal and external databases or published reports, applying data normalization techniques to synthesize insights and actionable recommendations.
Education and Certifications
  • Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) Certified Cost Professional (CCP) designation is strongly recommended.
