Job summary

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a Project Compliance role or similar.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Project Managers, Engineers, and consultants on phase gate deliverables and update processes.
  • Act as a point of contact for external parties and vendors regarding invoicing and coordination with finance.
  • Organize training schedules and support sessions for major projects groups.
  • Prepare governance-related documentation and training materials.
  • Coordinate activities of external contractors and internal staff on Major Projects governance.
  • Collaborate with FortisBC departments to gather information for phase gate deliverables.
  • Identify gaps affecting performance and participate in groups for new processes.

Position Overview

You bring a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks within the energy sector and a proven ability to guide projects toward full compliance from planning through execution. With a focus on accuracy, collaboration, and proactive problem‑solving, you work effectively with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure FortisBC’s assets and project portfolio meet all legislative, environmental, and safety requirements. In this role, you’ll act as a key subject matter resource on compliance requirements for BC Energy Regulator (BCER)‑regulated assets, providing both strategic and hands‑on support throughout the project and asset lifecycle. You’ll review legislation, standards, and internal policies; identify compliance risks; and help project teams navigate regulatory triggers and permitting pathways. You’ll also support governance development, manage training programs, coordinate with multiple departments, and maintain accurate documentation to support safe, efficient, and regulation‑aligned project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate with Project Managers, Engineers, and consultants on the phase gate deliverables for project plans and/or designs and update to processes and guidelines as required.
  • Acts a point of contact for external parties and vendors with regards to invoicing procedures and invoice management while assisting the finance and accounting team with communication and collaboration with vendors to address issues.
  • Organizes and manages training schedules and support session for major projects groups.
  • Preparation and administration of directed governance‑related documentation and training materials.
  • Coordinating the activities of external contractors, internal customers, other support providers relating to Major Projects Risk and Governance Initiatives.
  • Collaborates with other FortisBC departments, e.g. Property Services, Community Relations, First Nations Relations, Environmental, etc. to gather information regarding the completion of shared phase gate deliverables.
  • Addresses critical gaps affecting performance of project compliance including involvement in working/task groups for implementation of new processes and/or applications. Identifies and reviews instances of project non‑compliance.
  • Identify and relay documentation or process improvement opportunities related to FortisBC Major Projects.
  • Provides guidance to Engineers, technologists and project managers in the Major Projects Department with interpretations or other documentation relating to Major Projects governance policies.
  • Prepares and presents information to other FortisBC departments on the Major Projects processes. Reviews and modifies as required FortisBC processes, standards and templates in order to ensure consistent implementation.
  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
Requirements
  • High school graduation and completion of a recognized post‑secondary certificate of technology, or certificate in a business related field, or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years working experience in a Project Compliance role, or similar.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work with drafters for drawing revisions in order to submit applications or notices to the regulators.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret government legislation, regulations and acts.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of natural gas utilization and construction practices.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills including the ability to multi‑task, prioritize and work under pressure during peak workload periods in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to difficult or demanding situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated courteous, professional manner in dealing with internal and external contacts and customers, including positive interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated sound working knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated sound analytical and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures with attention to detail.
