Job summary

Prodigy is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our Finance team in Toronto. This role handles the accounting, reporting, and analysis of project revenue and costs and serves as the primary financial contact for assigned projects.

The candidate will have construction accounting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The role offers competitive pay, vacation, and annual bonus in a people-first culture.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience within the construction industry is a requirement.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Must have knowledge of ERP systems; Jonas Premier would be considered an asset.
  • Must have knowledge of accounting principles and best practices in AR/AP, reconciliations, and audit trails.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, organizing, following up and processing supplier & trade invoices for approval and payment, and reviews of Vendor Statements.
  • Ensuring trades are paid in accordance with payment terms and responding to vendor & trade queries promptly.
  • Reconcile against contract value (including change orders), process Subtrade invoices and follow up for insurances, declarations, and lien waivers.
  • Responsible for collection of payments (A/R) based on invoices; send monthly AR statements to clients for review.
  • Assemble client progress billing packages to ensure timely billings and payments.
  • Job and financial forecast setup, control, and maintenance; month-end activities including cost accruals, revenue recognition, and variance analysis.

This role serves as the primary financial and accounting contact for assigned projects and works closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Directors, Partners, clients, consultants, suppliers, and trades. The successful candidate will bring strong construction accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced project environment.

As a Project Accountant, you’ll be responsible for:
  • Reviewing, organizing, following up and processing supplier & trade invoices for approval and payment as well as reviews Vendor Statements.
  • Ensuring trades are paying in accordance with payment terms and responding to vendor & trade queries in a timely & effective manner, resolving issues promptly with project management teams.
  • Reconciling against contract value (including change orders), processing Subtrade invoices and following up for insurances, statutory declarations, and lien waivers.
  • Responsible for collection of payments (A/R) based on invoices submitted. Sends monthly AR statements to clients for review and payment follow-up, sends copies of any outstanding invoices.
  • Assembling client progress billing packages in accordance with approval procedures to ensure our clients are in receipt of billings on a timely basis and payments are received as per contract terms and conditions.
  • Responsible for job and financial forecast setup, control, and maintenance activities, as well as month end activities, including cost accruals, revenue recognition and variance analysis.
About You:

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience within the construction industry is a requirement.

Approximate Annual Salary Range for this role:

$65,000-85,000

Final compensation is determined based on experience, certifications, education/training, work location, and the size and the complexity of the projects assigned.
