Job summary

Enviros in Calgary seeks a Program Supervisor for Excel Discovery to lead a Open Custody program that supports youth transitioning to community life. You will be part of the Enviros leadership team, ensuring day-to-day operations align with program protocols and agency policy.

You will supervise up to 12 staff, coordinate with custody partners, maintain documentation and accreditation standards, and contribute to budgeting and staff development to promote safety and positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a Human Services related field.
  • Experience supervising staff, preferably with youth.
  • Experience with trauma-affected youth is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Youth Criminal Justice Act is a plus.
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required background checks.

The Program – ExCel Discovery

Enviros ExCel Discovery is an Open Custody program in the province of Alberta and has six (6) spaces for youth who have an open custody sentence. The program is designed to meet the needs of adolescent young offenders who have been sentenced to complete a portion of their custodial time in the community. ExCel Discovery is the only Open Custody group home in the province of Alberta. ExCel Discovery offers an integrated treatment setting with enhanced programming in the areas of addictions, education, mental health and reintegration. The overall goal of the program is to support young offenders in successfully transitioning from being in secure custody, to life in the community.

The Position

This position will be based at ExCel Discovery and will include direct involvement and support of the program, staff team, youth, and community partners. This position will be part of the Enviros leadership team and will ensure that day-to-day operations follow program protocols and Enviros policy.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of staff members up to 12 individuals
  • Consultation and reporting to the Custody Operations Branch
  • Collaborating with the Calgary and Edmonton Young Offenders Center
  • Ensure all Accreditation standards are upkept and met
  • Completion and overseeing of documentation and case management
  • Complete scheduling to ensure program is properly staffed
  • Active member of the leadership team
  • Oversee and approve staff timesheets, and time-off
  • Supports group care on-call on a rotational basis
  • Attend all leadership meetings
  • Conduct staff meetings
  • Along with the program manager, ensure that the budget is reviewed and adhered to
  • Provide regular supervision of staff members
  • Provide support when needed to clients
  • Recruitment, staff performance evaluations and staff training as required by CAC guidelines and ensure all staff training are current
  • Oversee household health and safety standards and overall housekeeping duties

Education & Experience

Post-secondary education in a Human Services related field

Experience And Demonstrated Skills In Supervising Staff
  • Experience working with youth affected by trauma
  • Experience/ Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act is considered an asset
  • CPR and first aid certification
Other Qualifications
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license ( Class 5 GDL will not be accepted)
  • A clean driver’s abstract containing not more than two (2) minor offences or one (1) major offence
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable sector check ( within six (6) months)
  • Child Intervention Check (within six (6) months)

Salary: $60,000 – $67,000 annually

Pre‑Employment Background Check Requirements

  • Intervention Record Check (IRC)
  • Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

Both checks must be completed prior to the employee’s start date. Please note that this process can take up to six (6) weeks to complete.

Enviros will accept IRCs and Criminal Record Checks with VSC that are no more than six (6) months old at the time of hire.
