Job summary

Boys and Girls Club Okanagan in Vernon, BC is hiring a full-time Program Area Leader to support Recreation Programs for Children, Youth, and Families. The role involves planning activities, ensuring facilities and licensing, and engaging with community partners.

The position requires a recreation/education credential or related experience, First Aid, 20 hours Responsible Adult, a Class 4 Driver's Licence, and successful screening.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in recreation, education or related social services.
  • Valid First Aid certificate.
  • 20 Hours Responsible Adult training or willingness to obtain.
  • Class 4 Driver's Licence or willingness to obtain it immediately.
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including Criminal Record Check.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age as per Provincial Licensing Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements activities and special events for a program.
  • Oversees day-to-day operation ensuring facilities, equipment, guidelines and licensing requirements are met.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor on program development, policy and procedure.
  • Promotes public awareness and support through promotional materials and community events.
  • Liaises with community service providers to coordinate service provision and referrals.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements activities and special events for a program.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
  • Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding program development, policy and procedure formulation, and program evaluation.
  • Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by performing duties such as producing promotional materials and attending community events.
  • Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program, and represent the organization or program in external events.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.

Qualifications:

  • A diploma, certificate and/or relevant experience working with children in recreation, education or other social services.
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • 20 Hours Responsible Adult training or willingness to obtain
  • Class 4 Driver's Licence or willingness to obtain it immediately
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check
  • Must be at least 19 years of age as per Provincial Licensing Regulations

Please Note:

  • This position is open to all applicants
  • This position requires union membership

Hours: Casual hours, with shifts available Sunday through Saturday. Evening and weekend work is required, with hours based on program needs.

Rate of Pay: $19.82 per hour
