Job summary

The Town of Milton is seeking a part-time instructor to plan and deliver quality programs for youth, ensuring safety and engaging activities. Reporting to the appropriate coordinators, you will develop lesson plans, manage participant needs, and supervise volunteers while maintaining a positive, professional environment.

Qualifications include a secondary school diploma, five years teaching experience, standard first aid/CPR-C, and relevant certifications (HIGH FIVE, CPI preferred).

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Diploma preferred.
  • Post-secondary education related to specialized field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years teaching/program instruction experience.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C is required.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development is desirable.
  • CPI or equivalent crisis prevention training is asset.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and instruct quality programs for targeted age group.
  • Ensure safe, supervised learning environment and encourage participation.
  • Develop structured programs with supervisor to meet participant needs.
  • Deliver lectures or demonstrations for assigned topics.
  • Communicate with parents/participants and address concerns.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance and support volunteers.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness and equipment in the facility.
  • Record attendance and complete required forms.
  • Ensure effective communication with staff and participants.

Proactively communicate program needs to facility operations staff and communicate any facility or equipment deficiencies to supervisor.Evaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address such risks. Communicate any action or concerns to supervisor.Maintain communication with customer service desk to provide relevant program updates and to request support in the event of an emergencyMaintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement.Provides suggestions to supervisor on ways to enhance the customer experienceComply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety ActAdministrative Tasks:Develop and prepare a material list and lesson plans to meet the needs of the program and participantsModify lesson plans as necessary based on program participant needsProvide lesson plans, regular updates and feedback to immediate SupervisorAttend all mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and all allocated program timesReport any incidents, to the Supervisor, ensuring all appropriate forms are filled out accurately and completedSubmit required forms (including payroll)Maintain accurate attendance and other administrative records as requiredEducation & ExperienceEducation & Experience• Secondary School Diploma Preferred• Post-Secondary Education related to specialized field is preferred• Minimum of five (5) years teaching/program instruction experience• Experience working with targeted age group Certifications or Designations is an asset• Standard First Aid and CPR C• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (children’s programs)• Certifications/workshops in a related field and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent is as asset• Expert knowledge and aptitude in a specific area of interest (e.g. art history, including contemporary practice, languages, music, dance, wellness)• Master level expertise in variety of techniques and practice specific to the area of interest (e.g. painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, hand building, clay sculpture, languages, music, dance, wellness)• Expert in one or more artistic techniques, practices and materials in a minimum of one area of the following interests/skills: painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, hand building, clay sculpture)• Strong problem solving skills with the ability to work well independently and in a team environment• Superior instructional and facilitation skills• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills• Effective program planning and service delivery skillsNote to ApplicantsThis posting is for an existing job vacancy.The Town is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, accessible, and respectful workplace.
