Job summary

Wesley seeks a Program Housing Assistant to support intake, administrative tasks, and service delivery for the Halton Housing Services program. You will work as part of a rotating shift schedule, including weekends and holidays, in a 40-hour unionized contract.

Reporting to the Manager of Halton Housing Services, you will help maintain client-centered housing, intake protocols, and accurate records using our registry system. A college diploma in human services is required.

Qualifications

  • A College Diploma in human services and administration is required.
  • Experience supporting adults and families with homelessness and mental health/Addictions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction as a team player.
  • Basic IT tasks (password resets, updates) are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Complete on-call intake assessments before admitting individuals/families to temporary housing.
  • Screen applicants for domestic violence and refer to appropriate programs.
  • Provide setup supports to new intakes including rules, consent and confidentiality forms.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming and safe housing environment 24/7 service model.
  • Document and input information into registries/databases (COTS) for service stats.
  • Document incidents as required.
  • Maintain communication with relieving staff about outstanding issues.
  • Ensure client safety during shifts and respond to emergencies.
  • Address daily living concerns and provide referrals and guidance.

Are you the one we’re looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Program Housing Assistant who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.

The Program Housing Assistants Reports to the Manager of Halton Housing Services. This position will assist in providing intake supports and carrying out day-to-day administrative services. Wesley Halton Housing offers services to the homeless in Halton Region, supporting homeless families and individuals in a transitional program on-site. Services are based on a client-centered, residential harm reduction and housing first approach delivery model.

The position is part of a team that provides 24/7 coverage.

The position works rotating twelve-hour shifts including weekends and statutory holidays. This is a unionized, contract full-time position, working 40 hours per week. The rate of pay is $22.73 per hour. The contract term is from September 1st, 2026, to August 1st, 2027.

Key Responsibilities:
On-Call & Intake
  1. Responsible to complete on-call assessment protocols before admitting individuals or families to temporary housing program, coordinated through Halton 311.
  2. Screen applicants for any recent, current or ongoing experience with domestic violence and make referrals to appropriate programs.
  3. To provide set-up supports to new intakes into the program, including rules and regulations of program, participant consent & confidentiality forms, and other intake tasks.
  4. To create and maintain a welcoming and safe housing environment within the current 24 hour, 7 days a week service model.

Complete pre and post move in inspections of on-site units to ensure health and safety standards, in collaboration with the program’s Health & Safety Officer & Property Manager.

Administrative
  1. Document and input information into registry and participant files in computer data bases (COTS) to ensure accurate service statistics and participant records.
  2. To document incidents as required.
  3. Maintain regular and effective communication with relieving staff of events during shift so staff is aware of outstanding concerns or issues to address
Service Delivery
  1. Ensure clients are safe during shift, if an emergency arises, staff will respond as required.
  2. Respond to participant concerns related to daily living tasks, provide referrals and guidance on issues related to living in temporary housing. To attend team meetings regularly/ as scheduled
What you will bring:
  1. A College Diploma in human services and administration, must have studies pertinent to social services, community health, human resources, and office administration.
  2. Experience working with adults and families with mental health and addictions concerns and homelessness while providing non-judgmental supports lens.
  3. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and high stress situations.
  4. Demonstrated experience as a highly motivated team player, with proven ability to take initiative and be self-directed.
  5. Demonstrated skills in basic IT supports (i.e. password reset, computer updates, etc).
