Job summary

Indwell is seeking a Housing Support Worker for the Wentworth Program in Hamilton, Ontario. This part-time role focuses on promoting housing stability and wellbeing for marginalized individuals, while reflecting the charity's vision and values.

The position operates within a 24/7 program with shifts from 7AM-3PM or 3PM-11PM, and potential overnight coverage. A PVSC, TB test, and First Aid/CPR are required, with training reimbursement by Indwell.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Recent PVSC (Police Vulnerable Sector Check) acceptable by Indwell; at applicant's cost.
  • TB Test required at applicant's cost.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days; reimbursement by Indwell.
  • Food Handler's Certificate.
  • Warm, sensitive, and caring approach; strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals with daily living activities.
  • Assist with cooking and cleaning; 3 meals prepared by staff daily.
  • Administer medications and record daily shift notes.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment.
  • Reinforce residents’ life skills, spirituality, and social/community skills.
  • Collaborate with the residential care team.

Hours of Work:

Part-time, up to 24 hours per week, more hours possible based on program need. Program operates 24/7. Shift times are 7AM-3PM and 3PM-11PM. Some flexibility and ability to provide coverage for overnight shifts 11PM-7AM.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Supporting individuals with life activities of daily living
  • Household duties: cooking ( 3 meals prepared by staff each day) and cleaning, other duties as assigned
  • Administering medication, recording daily shift notes
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe environment
  • Reinforcing residents’ life skills, spirituality, and social and community skills
  • Working as part of a team supporting individuals living in the residential care facility
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
  • Minimum High School diploma. Priority given to those with post-secondary education in the social sciences and/or residential experience; current students encouraged to apply
  • Recent Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with the information therein acceptable by Indwell to meet the operational requirements of the program- at one’s own cost
  • TB Test required at one’s own cost
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification from an approved provider that meets Ontario provincial standardsor willingness to register for the training within 30 days of employment-reimbursement by Indwell
  • Food Handler's Certificate
  • A warm, sensitive, and caring approach
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and have a genuine interest in supporting people living with mental illness
  • Work independently, have strong problem-solving skills, be flexible, organized, responsible, and take initiative
