Job summary

BGC Okanagan in Lake Country, BC is seeking a casual Program Area Leader to support Recreation programs for children, youth and families at our Lake Country location. You will plan and implement activities, supervise day‑to‑day operations, and promote community engagement.

Join a supportive team, gain ongoing professional development, and contribute to the wellbeing of local families. Compensation includes a wage of $19.82 per hour with casual/on‑call hours.

Qualifications

  • A diploma, certificate and/or relevant experience working with children/youth in recreation, education or social services.
  • Completion of a course of at least 20 hours including child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (licensed programs).
  • One year recent related experience.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to obtain Class 4 as soon as possible.
  • First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain.
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements recreational, social, and/or educational activities for a specified program.
  • Works in a team together with the Activity Leaders to deliver the specified program and encourages and facilitates member participation in activities.
  • Oversees the day‑to‑day operation of the program by ensuring facilities and equipment are in place, guidelines are followed, and licensing requirements are met.
  • Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding program development, policy and procedure formulation, and program evaluation.
  • Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by producing promotional materials and attending community events.
  • Liaises with community service providers and professionals to coordinate service provision and represent the program externally.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans and implements recreational, social, and/or educational activities for a specified program.

  • Completion of a course or a combination of courses of at least 20 hours duration which include child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (licensed programs)
  • One (1) year recent related experience
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to obtain Class 4 as soon as possible
  • First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check
  • This position is open to all applicants
  • This position requires union membership
