Organization Description:

Gender Equity in Media Society Vancouver (GEMS) is a member-based organization dedicated to promoting gender equity in film and television. Founded in 1989 as a not-for-profit society registered in British Columbia, GEMS aims to address systemic barriers and support more inclusive, representative media.

The Programs & Outreach Manager is responsible for planning, managing timelines, staff, and contractors for GEMS’ programs and events, and for developing partnerships with sponsors, community groups, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  1. Program & Event Management (50%)
  • Oversee program timelines and deliverables with program directors for initiatives like The Genre Film Lab, Emerging TV Producers Program, GEMFest, and others.
  • Assist the Executive Director with hiring processes for program staff and contractors.
  • Support program directors in delivering sessions, workshops, and related activities.
  • Develop calls for submissions, manage acceptance communications, and coordinate juries and evaluation criteria.
  • Manage mentorship programs, including the Whistler Film Festival Mentorship.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors such as venues, technical staff, guest speakers, and volunteers.
  • Track attendance, compile statistics, and prepare post-event reports and evaluations.
  • Assist with grant applications and reporting related to programs and events.
  • Sponsorship & Outreach Management (50%)
    • Work with the Executive Director to develop sponsorship strategies for programs and festivals.
    • Secure sponsorships and maintain sponsor relationships, ensuring deliverables are met.
    • Maintain relationships with sponsors and community partners.
    • Track data for events and ensure compliance with grant and sponsorship agreements.
    • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to meet sponsorship deliverables.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

    • Post-secondary education in film/media, journalism, business, marketing, communications, or related fields (preferred)
    • 2-3 years relevant experience
    • Legal eligibility to work in Canada (PR/Work Visa)
    • Fluent in written and spoken English

    Salary: $60,000 annually for a 35-hour workweek, hybrid from Vancouver.
