Job summary

Bombardier is seeking a Professional Engineer for Aircraft Structural Dynamics. The role focuses on aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic analyses, FE modeling in MSC Nastran, and collaboration across engineering disciplines in a Canadian aerospace environment.

The candidate will support GVT/FFT testing and document certification results, while applying CFD methods and aeroelastic techniques to ensure safe and compliant designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with aerospace specialization.
  • Relevant aerospace industry experience.
  • Experience in aeroservoelasticity analyses.
  • Experience with finite element modeling in MSC Nastran for aeroelastic applications.
  • Knowledge of aeroelastic methods and CFD for aeroelastic studies.
  • Programming in Matlab, Python, Fortran, or C/C++.

Responsibilities

  • Perform aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic simulations for design studies and airworthiness of in-service aircraft.
  • Use engineering judgment to select methods and tools for complex issues.
  • Prepare and maintain finite element models for aeroelastic analysis.
  • Maintain and document methods and in-house software.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (Design, Aerodynamics, Structures, Flight Controls).
  • Support ground vibration testing (GVT) and flight flutter testing (FFT) and post-process results.
  • Document analyses and findings in certification reports and presentations (English).

What are your contributions to the team?
  • Perform aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic simulations in support of new aircraft design studies and continued airworthiness of in-service aircraft
  • Use engineering judgment on selecting the appropriate methods, techniques, and tools in resolving complex issues
  • Prepare and maintain finite element models to perform aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic analysis
  • Maintain, develop and document methods and in-house software
  • Support and interact with other engineering disciplines, such as Advanced Design, Aerodynamics, Structures, Mass Properties, Flight Controls and Control Laws
  • Support ground vibration testing (GVT) and flight flutter testing (FFT) and post-process results
  • Document analyses and findings in engineering certification reports and presentations (English)
How to thrive in this role?
  • You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with Aerospace specialization. A high education would be an asset
  • You have relevant experience in the aerospace industry
  • You have some experience in aeroservoelasticity analyses
  • You have experience developing finite element models in MSC Nastran for aeroelastic applications.
  • You have experience conducting classical aeroelastic analyses including static aeroelasticity, divergence, control surface reversal, flutter, and stability assessments.
  • You have experience generating and validating structural dynamic models, including modal analyses, frequency response calculations, and stability evaluations.
  • You have experience with aerodynamic methods used for aeroelastic analyses such as Doublet Lattice Method (DLM), Vortex Lattice Methods (VLM), Nonlinear Vortex Lattice Methods (NL-VLM), or equivalent approaches.
  • You have experience using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools and methodologies, including high-fidelity aerodynamic modeling, for aeroelastic or aeroservoelastic studies.
  • You have experience programming in Matlab, Python, Fortran, or C/C++
  • You are eligible to acquire Canadian Controlled Goods (CGD) clearance
  • You have some knowledge of Airworthiness regulations
  • You have good organizational skills in planning work activities and completing tasks within budget and on schedule, and can work under pressure
  • You have good analytical thinking, problem solving, communication skills both written and spoken, in French and English
