Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing Maintenance support, ongoing planning, and assistance to maximize efficiencies, identify opportunities to lower maintenance costs and increase productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize the Preventative Maintenance Program (PMP) including predictive maintenance, spare parts inventory and down-time trending by equipment and frequency.
  2. Provide training and mentorship to maintenance technicians.
  3. Enhance equipment performance, recommending and implementing improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
  4. Identify and repair problematic parts of a machine by running tests to ensure repairs are made or by installing new parts.
  5. Help manage maintenance parts procurement and budget.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional groups including Production, Human Resource, Quality, Supply Chain, Warehousing, and Finance to meet production targets.
  7. Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve machines and plant equipment to maximize efficiency.
  8. Lead by example, fostering a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Demonstrate flexibility and a "whatever it takes" attitude to ensure tasks are completed properly, including being available on-call during nights and weekends.
  9. Assist in executing the production schedule and supply the needs of Operations.
  10. Ensure effective Maintenance safety procedures, tools and record keeping are managed through site leadership.
  11. Comply with all SunOpta Quality and food safety standards, HACCP, GMPs, Organic, GFCO, SQF, Kosher certificate and customer requirements.
  12. Responsible for Food Safety and reporting any non-compliance issues to their immediate supervisor.
  13. Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required.
  14. Backup for this role is alternate Lead Production Maintenance Technician.
  15. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Millwright 433a Certified
  • 3+ years of experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred

  • Must have a high level of attention to detail, meet deadlines, and be able to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical production equipment under minimal direction and supervision.
  • Must have working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook software

Additional Considerations:

The location for this role is in St. Davids, Ontario, Canada

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • 100% of the work is performed in a production environment
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts: days, afternoons, nights
  • Must be available to work weekends
  • Must be able to stand/walk for majority of the shift
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or with a team
  • Competency in performing multiple tasks
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Must have reliable transportation (location is off bus route)
