Gerdau is hiring a Production Labourer (Utility Person) to support the finishing end of the Rolling Mill. You will handle and package quality steel bars, inspect products, and assist with equipment setup and troubleshooting.

The role requires teamwork, good attendance, and the ability to work 12-hour rotating days and nights. Industrial setting, safety rules, and hands-on tasks are central to daily duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Team environment experience and effective communication are essential.
• Good attendance and dependable work ethic are expected.
• Physically able to perform labour-intensive tasks.
• Basic computer skills are preferred.
• Strong oral communication and judgement are required.
• Willingness to work 12-hour rotating day/night shifts.
• Ability to operate pneumatic tools and basic gear as listed.

Responsibilities

• Handle, sort, stack and bundle finished products and scrap materials.
• Inspect finished bar product during processing.
• Tag and inventory finished product with weighing and counting systems.
• Assist Machine Operators with equipment setup and troubleshooting.
• Clean machines and work areas.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklift.
• Communicate over 2-way radio with Operators.
• Work independently or in a team with minimal supervision.
• Follow all safety rules.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job Summary

The Production Labourer (Utility Person) works primarily in the finishing end area of the Gerdau Rolling Mill. This person is responsible for ensuring quality steel bars are prepared and packaged to meet our customers’ needs.

Job Duties

• Handle, sort, stack and bundle finished products and scrap materials
• Inspect finished bar product during continuous processing
• Tag and inventory finished product using automated weighing and piece count systems
• Assist Machine Operators in equipment set-up and aid in troubleshooting
• Clean machines and immediate work areas
• Operate overhead cranes and forklift
• Communicate clearly over 2-way radio with Machine Operators
• Work independently and/or in a team setting with minimal supervision
• Follow all safety rules
• Perform other activities as required

Working Conditions

• Industrial Rolling Mill with majority of working time indoors
• Physically demanding; lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs) regularly
• Fast-paced environment
• Combination of sitting, standing, walking for extended periods

Qualifications

• Must be able to work shift work – 12 hr shifts rotating between days and nights as scheduled
• Must be able to use the following: pneumatic tools, banding equipment, hand-cutting torches, pry bars, grinders, etc.

Hiring Requirements

• All successful candidates must pass a Medical & Ergonomic Assessment
• Background, Education and Criminal record check will be performed

• Starting rate of $30.0493 / hr plus shift premiums when applicable
