Job summary

Gerdau Long Steel North America in Canada is seeking an Industrial Millwright to inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment throughout the plant.

The ideal candidate holds a Certificate of Qualification (433A) and has experience in heavy manufacturing. You will work with a team, participate in PM schedules, and may rotate shifts. The position offers an hourly rate of $44.62 plus overtime and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Qualification (Industrial Mechanic/Millwright – 433A) required.
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with exposure to PM, hydraulics, VF drives, PLCs, welding and crane work.
  • Strong communication and ability to work with others.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, replace and adjust mechanical equipment in the plant.
  • Receive work orders and plan repairs to minimize production disruption.
  • Determine best repair methods and advise on shutdown needs to avoid damage.
  • Assemble gears, bearings, shafts and align pumps, motors and gear reducers.
  • Operate power-driven mobile equipment and cranes.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position’s main focus will be to inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust and maintain mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

What You Will Do

  • Inspect, install, repair, replace, adjust all mechanical equipment in the plant.
  • Receive instructions, prints or work orders, covering scheduled and emergency repairs, installation and inspection work to be done.
  • Determine the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.
  • Advise when immediate shut down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
  • Assemble or align gears, bearings and shafts, involving press, sliding and running fits, align pumps, motors, turbines and gear reducers.
  • Responsible for performing assigned maintenance work on large and small producing units.
  • Operate power driven mobile equipment and ordinary crane hooking.

Education/Experience

  • Certificate of Qualification (Industrial Mechanic/Millwright – 433A) as recognized by the Ontario College of Trades is required.
  • Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, with exposure to PM, Hydraulics, VF drives, PLC’s welding, crane work.
  • Strong communication and work ethic, ability to work in a team and with other trades.
  • Basic computers experience a must.

Additional Information

  • All successful candidates must pass a post-medical and ergonomic assessment.
  • Background, education and criminal record check will be performed.
  • Must have the ability to work rotating shifts.
