The Production Area Team Leader orchestrates the daily production activities within their designated area to meet established deadlines and quality standards. This role is pivotal in scheduling and managing the workflow to align with the Master Planning Schedule (MPS), ensuring that production targets and milestones are consistently achieved. The leader not only supervises a diverse team of production employees but also actively engages in their development. This includes managing performance, conducting regular reviews, supporting attendance and punctuality, and optimizing resource allocation to cover all scheduled production demands. The leader champions a workplace culture that prioritizes safety, quality, teamwork, and accountability.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and regularly update work area schedules to meet MPS demands. Adjust and coordinate necessary changes proactively. Develop recovery plans (as needed).
  • Work closely with Planning, Programs, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance departments to provide progress reports and identify/address potential risks and opportunities to the production activities.
  • Regularly review the MPS to ensure the work area is equipped with necessary resources (people, materials, equipment), identify any gaps, and implement mitigating actions.
  • Utilize the ERP system for management of manufacturing work orders. Collect and track area performance metrics, e.g., safety, quality, cost, schedule adherence, efficiency, etc.
  • Conduct daily management meetings to set work priorities, assign tasks, ensure all materials are available for production and review area performance metrics. Maintain open lines of communication to share company updates and promote a safety-oriented culture.
  • Ensure operators are using equipment that is operational and properly calibrated, coordinating with Maintenance or Calibration teams as necessary.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and quality reviews to maintain compliance with standards.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues, participate in root cause analyses of non-conforming parts, and identify improvement opportunities to optimize production workflow and manage work-in-progress effectively.
  • Lead and develop production team members through coaching, mentoring, and training. Manage performance evaluations, review & approve time entries and time off requests, and provide ongoing feedback.

You have:

  • Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in an industrial, manufacturing, (e.g., composite, structural assembly, painting or relevant field) or engineering field.
  • 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in aerospace, with experience planning and scheduling complex manufacturing processes through to completion.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate a team of manufacturing professionals to meet and exceed production targets.
  • Demonstrated focus on productivity and improvement with an innate ability to keep track of various parts and job orders and manage time spent on different tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to read, write and communicate effectively with individuals at various levels in the organization.
  • High attention to detail with strong problem solving and analytical skills. Posses a strong understanding of production metrics and knows which levers to pull to improve performance.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in M365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and ERP software.
  • A keen and proactive focus on safety and well being, with experiencing managing safety incidents and addressing potential safety issues before they become incidents.
