Food Scientist / Senior Product Developer

On-site

The Company:

We are partnering with a well-established and rapidly growing North American food manufacturer on a confidential basis to identify a talented Food Scientist / Sr. Product Developer for a key site in Ontario. This organization is on an ambitious growth path,through a combination of innovation and expansion.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of R&D, the Food Scientist / Product Development Specialist (Senior) will lead the formulation, development, and optimization of products.

This role is both creative and technical, requiring someone who can translate consumer trends into commercially viable, high-quality products. This is a high-impact opportunity to drive innovation while supporting renovation and continuous improvement efforts across existing product lines. The successful candidate will be based onsite in Oakville area, with occasional travel to the company’s U.S. manufacturing sites.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop new products from concept to launch

• Explore unique flavours, textures, and formats aligned with brand strategy

• Refine recipes based on sensory, regulatory, and market input

Product Optimization:

• Improve current formulations for taste, shelf life, cost, and consistency

• Lead sensory and analytical evaluations to ensure quality and performance

Research & Development:

• Investigate new ingredients, technologies, and processing techniques

• Test ingredient functionality and scalability for production

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Partner with Marketing on concept development

• Collaborate with QA and Operations to ensure quality and efficiency in scale-up

• Provide technical support during plant trials and launches

Documentation & Compliance:

• Maintain accurate formulations, test records, and process documentation

• Ensure adherence to food safety, quality, and regulatory standards

Ideal Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Culinary Science, or a related discipline

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in food product development

• Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, sensory science, and baking processes

• Experience taking products from concept to commercialization

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Creative thinker with strong problem-solving and project management skills

• Excellent communicator and team collaborator

• Familiarity with food regulatory requirements; Canadian and U.S. experience preferred
