Heritage Co-op is inviting applications for a Produce Clerk - Part-Time (Evenings and Weekends) in Brandon, MB. Produce Clerk - Part-Time (Evenings and Weekends)
For our Produce Department located in Brandon, MB

The Produce Clerk is responsible for providing an exceptional level of customer service while maintaining attractive, fresh, and well-stocked produce displays. This position supports the daily operation of the Produce Department through receiving, stocking, rotating, merchandising, and maintaining fruits and vegetables while ensuring food safety, quality, and cleanliness standards are consistently met.

The Produce Clerk contributes to the overall success of the department by creating a positive shopping experience, maintaining inventory standards, and supporting efficient department operations while delivering a World Class Customer Experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection, product knowledge, and inquiries; collaborate respectfully with Team Members to support a positive work environment and deliver a World Class Customer Experience.
  • Stock, replenish, and merchandise fresh produce displays while ensuring products are properly presented, rotated, signed, and priced according to Heritage Co-op Brand Standards.
  • Receive produce shipments, inspect product quality, verify quantities, and transport products safely to storage and display areas.
  • Monitor the freshness and quality of produce by inspecting products regularly, rotating stock using First-In-First-Out (FIFO) procedures, and removing damaged, spoiled, or unsaleable merchandise.
  • Assist with inventory counts, stock movement, and shrink control while reporting shortages, damages, or quality concerns to management.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, produce displays, coolers, storage areas, and equipment to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Follow food safety, food handling, WHMIS, occupational health and safety, and company security procedures.
  • Assist with department housekeeping, seasonal promotions, special projects, and other duties as assigned to support department operations.
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of high school is considered an asset.
  • Previous retail, grocery, produce, or customer service experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience handling fresh food products is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development within the retail food industry.
  • Food Safe Certification is considered an asset.
  • WHMIS training is considered an asset or willingness to obtain.
  • Basic knowledge of produce products and merchandising practices is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 23 kg (50 lbs.).
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in refrigerated coolers and varying temperature environments.
