Job summary

Altasciences is seeking a Procurement Specialist I to support supplier identification, purchase orders, and basic sourcing tasks. You will help ensure timely acquisition of materials and services while maintaining records and compliance with GxP, FDA, and ISO standards.

The role involves cross-functional collaboration with R&D, QA, Manufacturing, and Finance to understand sourcing needs and priorities. Strong negotiation and analytical skills are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of procurement, supply chain, or contract management experience.
  • Proficiency in contract management systems and ERP software (SAP, Oracle, Coupa).
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to travel to various site locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support sourcing activities for laboratory supplies, raw materials, equipment, and services critical to biotech operations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers in compliance with quality and regulatory standards (GMP, FDA).
  • Assist in negotiating pricing, contracts, and SLAs to achieve cost savings and value.
  • Process purchase requisitions and convert them into purchase orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitor procurement records and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
  • Track orders, resolve discrepancies, and coordinate with vendors on delivery or quality issues.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards to support sourcing decisions and leadership reviews.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Finance to understand sourcing needs.

About The Role

The Procurement Specialist I supports procurement activities by assisting with supplier identification, purchase orders, and basic sourcing tasks. This role helps ensure timely acquisition of materials and services while maintaining accurate records and supporting compliance with company and regulatory standards.

What You’ll Do Here
  • Support sourcing activities for laboratory supplies, raw materials, equipment, and services critical to biotech operations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers in compliance with quality and regulatory standards (e.g., GMP, FDA requirements).
  • Assist in negotiating pricing, contracts, and service‑level agreements to achieve cost savings and value optimization.
  • Process purchase requisitions and convert them into purchase orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure continuity of supply for critical materials used in research, development, and manufacturing.
  • Track orders, resolve discrepancies, and coordinate with vendors to address delivery or quality issues.
  • Perform initial contract reviews to ensure alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate sourcing and contract records within procurement systems.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with internal policies and external regulations (GxP, FDA, ISO standards).
  • Analyze spend data to identify cost‑saving opportunities and support budgeting efforts.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supplier performance metrics.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards to support sourcing decisions and leadership reviews.
  • Partner with R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Finance teams to understand sourcing needs and priorities.
  • Support new product development and clinical programs by sourcing specialized materials and services.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure alignment and issue resolution.
  • Contribute to process improvements in procurement workflows and systems.
  • Support supplier performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in cross‑training and knowledge‑sharing efforts to enhance team capability.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or contract management, preferably within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Proficiency in contract management systems and ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Coupa).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Analytical Ability: Skills in cost analysis, reporting, and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to build relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Detail Orientation: High level of accuracy in data entry and contract review.
  • Willingness to travel to various site locations as needed.
  • Capable of managing multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Must be self‑directed, motivated, and have a willingness to take the initiative to identify and anticipate client needs and make recommendations for implementation.
  • Relevant industry experience a plus.

  • The employee frequently communicates with English‑only customers outside the province of Quebec.
