Job summary

Interpro Pipe & Steel Inc. is seeking a Process Technology Specialist to provide technical support at our Red Deer manufacturing facility, covering pipe finishing, heat treat and threading. You will collaborate across departments to identify improvements that raise product quality and performance.

The role emphasizes data-driven problem solving, with hands-on execution of DOE, Six Sigma tools, and SPC. You’ll lead cross-functional teams, develop KPIs, and mentor shop floor staff while pursuing

Qualifications

  • Recognized Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an R&D, QA or Engineering team.
  • Six Sigma Green belt and/or statistical process control experience would be an asset.
  • Experience in metal forming and machining, especially threading.

Responsibilities

  • Address process control issues with a cross functional team using statistical tools to lead data driven solutions.
  • Develop trending for quality KPIs (reworks, rejects, downgrades) and publish analysis with action items.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions (A3, FMEA) with operations and quality during improvement efforts.
  • Conduct design of experiments to optimize processes as needed.
  • Provide investment impact support to quantify potential savings of improvements.
  • Ensure shop floor documents and training reflect targets, tolerances and measurement frequency.

Job Responsibilities

Join Interpro Pipe & Steel as a Process Technology Specialist where you’ll provide technical support at our Red Deer manufacturing facility which includes pipe finishing operations, heat treat and threading. The Process Technology Specialist works with all departments to identify and implement opportunities for improvement so that product quality and performance are improved.

  • Address process control/product performance issues with a cross functional team by utilizing statistical tools and techniques to lead the group to a data driven solution
  • Develop trending for quality KPIs such as rejects, rework, downgrades by mill/product, and key process factors. Correlate this data to process conditions. Publish update reports and provides analysis of the data with necessary action items. Works with operations/quality team to improve trends
  • Lead brainstorming sessions (A3, and FMEA types) with operations and quality personnel during the initial stages of the process control effort or efforts to improve the process
  • Conduct process optimization trials by using statistical methods (Design of Experiments) as necessary
  • If a financial investment is required, provide support to the QA/Operations teams to define the potential savings of process improvements
  • Work with the Quality Assurance and Operations teams to ensure that shop floor documents and training identify the features of process control necessary (targets/tolerances; frequency of measurement, etc) to maintain the process control system
  • Attend six sigma, lean manufacturing, and process control equipment conferences to stay abreast of process control techniques/advancements/ that can be used in our manufacturing processes to continually improve our performance
Requirements
  • Recognized Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a R&D, QA or Engineering team
  • Six Sigma Green belt and/or statistical process control experience would be an asset
  • Experience in metal forming and machining processes, especially threading, would be an asset
  • Occasional travel to other Interpro locations may be required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, and PowerPoint)
  • Proven teamwork, demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with attention to detail in the administration of projects
