Overview
To ensure that all containers and lids are manufactured and packaged according to Berry Global Quality standards and guidelines in a safe and efficient manner by operating, troubleshooting, documenting, and communicating molding conditions.
Responsibilities
- Exemplify the Berry Behaviors and Values at all times. Lead by example and demonstrate professionalism when representing Berry inside and outside the plant.
- Collaborate professionally with other mold technicians and maintenance personnel to maintain equipment in optimal condition, ensuring only quality products are released to customers.
- Set up machines for operation, change materials and colors to meet production schedules.
- Possess a technical understanding of processes and raw materials used.
- Keep supervisor/management informed of all issues.
- Supervise or manage others as needed, including training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, and resolving issues in coordination with supervisors.
- Start up machines and monitor quality during startup.
- Adjust machines appropriately to maintain efficient production and document adjustments.
- Respond to Quality Assurance Technicians by adjusting machines to meet size and quality standards.
- Oversee proper packaging procedures.
- Review production schedules to ensure machines meet customer demands.
- Respond to alarms and requests for assistance to resolve machine malfunctions or packer/handler issues.
- Follow Lockout/tagout procedures.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance and Maintenance departments regarding machine operations and malfunctions.
- Inspect scrap to prevent reusable product from being ground; record scrap data.
- Perform the Packer/Handler job effectively to assist during relief breaks.
- Assist with material handling as needed.
- Keep the production floor stocked with necessary materials such as fitments, handles, labels, and tape.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure quality and housekeeping standards are upheld.
- Facilitate smooth shift transitions.
- Perform various other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior plastic injection molding experience highly preferred.
- Possess or obtain a technical understanding of injection molding processes and procedures.
- Ability to stand for long periods; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with arms.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Frequently climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Exposure to production floor with required PPE such as bump caps, safety eyewear, safety shoes, hair/beard nets, hearing protection, and masks.
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Vision abilities include distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles and working near moving mechanical parts.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; self-starter in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
