Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to strengthen safety protocols for Oil & Gas facilities in the Kimberley region. The role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and controlling process hazards to prevent major accidents and safeguard personnel and the environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process design, hazard analysis techniques, and risk management, contributing to a robust safety culture and operational integrity within upstream operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably in Oil & Gas or chemical industry.
  • Proficiency in hazard identification and risk assessment techniques (HAZOP, LOPA).
  • Strong understanding of PSM systems, safety-critical equipment, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, What-If) to identify process safety risks.
  • Develop and implement process safety management programs and procedures.
  • Oversee safety systems design and implementation (ESD, relief, fire protection).
  • Investigate incidents and near misses to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical guidance and training on process safety to operations and engineering teams.
  • Review designs to ensure compliance with process safety requirements.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety protocols for Oil & Gas facilities in the Kimberley region. This crucial role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and controlling process-related hazards to prevent major accidents and ensure the safety of personnel and the environment. You will conduct safety studies, implement safety management systems, and ensure compliance with stringent safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of process design, hazard analysis techniques, and risk management principles, contributing to a robust safety culture and operational integrity within the company's upstream operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies, to identify and assess potential process safety risks.
  • Develop and implement process safety management (PSM) programs and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of safety systems, such as emergency shutdown systems (ESD), relief systems, and fire protection systems.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to operations and engineering personnel on process safety matters.
  • Review engineering designs and modifications to ensure they meet process safety requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the Oil & Gas or chemical industry .
  • Proficiency in conducting various hazard identification and risk assessment techniques (HAZOP, LOPA, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of process safety management systems, safety-critical equipment, and relevant industry standards.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM) and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills for this Kimberley-based role.
