Job summary
HEABC, the Health Employers Association of British Columbia, seeks a Legal Counsel, Privacy and Contracts to oversee privacy compliance and provide corporate legal services on funding agreements and contracts for services. You will work cross-functionally to support privacy compliance, information governance, and third-party transactions.
You will be the primary HEABC contact for third-party contracts, draft and negotiate template agreements, oversee renewals, and help ensure operations align
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws or JD and in good standing.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience drafting, negotiating contracts (including privacy and/or IT security).
- Strong understanding of FIPPA, PIPA, and global privacy regulations.
- Experience with responding to freedom of information and personal information requests.
- Experience providing legal advice on privacy and data protection.
Responsibilities
- Responds to a variety of legal queries, escalating as needed, including privacy implications.
- Represents HEABC with external counsel on files requiring privacy consideration.
- Provides opinions on privacy, governance, and risk to HEABC staff and leadership.
- Reviews and prepares legal opinions impacting health sector and provincial bargaining.
- Leads third-party contract reviews and provides input to senior leadership.
