Job summary

SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 74 (Gold Trail) seeks a Principal for Kumsheen ShchEma-meet School in Lytton, BC. The successful candidate will lead a K-12 program (78 students, majority Indigenous) and embed Indigenous knowledge into the curriculum.

Qualifications

• Must hold BC Teaching Certificate and master’s degree or be pursuing one.
• Proven leadership in elementary school programming and curriculum.
• Strong communication with parents, Nations, and communities.
• Experience with Indigenous communities and integration of Indigenous knowledge into curriculum.
• Knowledge of Local Education Agreements and improving Indigenous student outcomes.
• Experience leading innovative student achievement initiatives.
• Experience with experiential, place-based and inquiry learning.
• Ability to supervise learning and ensure a welcoming environment.
• Excellent conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead elementary school programs and curriculum development.
• Collaborate with students, staff, families, Nations and community organizations to raise student achievement.
• Foster positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and communities through effective communication.
• Embed Indigenous knowledge and local Indigenous culture into curriculum.
• Promote experiential, place-based and inquiry-based learning experiences.
• Provide supervision for learning and maintain a welcoming school environment.
• Lead anti-racism initiatives to create a safe, inclusive school community.
