Qualifications

  • Master of Education (Administrative Leadership) is required.
  • Bachelor of Education Degree is required.
  • Teaching Experience – minimum of 5 years, preferably in a First Nations School.
  • In-depth knowledge of the BC Education curriculum.
  • Administrative Experience- minimum of 2 years.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with budgets.
  • Conflict Resolution and Management.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with key stakeholders to develop the strategic and operational planning of the School Programs and activities.
  • Facilitates and ensures the personal and professional development of school staff.
  • Manages and supervises the daily operations of Wilp Si Wilaxsinxswhl Simgigyet activities, programs, staff and students.
  • Designs and implements a Community Relations program, providing ongoing information regarding school activities, achievements, needs and direction to the Community.
  • Plans, implements and monitors a K-7 program and curriculum, ensuring integration of Gitksen First Nation’s Culture, History and Language.
  • Coordinates regular testing and assessment of students, making provisions for students requiring special needs services as required and ensures instructional staff are trained in current recognition and assessment techniques.

The Principal/Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day management, administration, leadership, and supervision of Wilp Si Wilaxsinxswhl Simgigyet. The Principal/Teacher ensures the effective integration of Gitxsan culture, history and language into the education curriculum.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Education (Administrative Leadership)

Bachelor of Education Degree

Teaching Experience – minimum of 5 years, preferably in a First Nations School
