Job summary

Nusdeh Whesulh Elementary School in Quesnel, BC, invites applications for a Principal role. This Indigenous led independent school seeks an experienced leader to guide teaching and learning in its first years, maintain daily operations, and uphold the Binygunchagh Deyen philosophy.

The successful candidate will work closely with Elders, families, and community partners, lead in inclusive education, and ensure BC Ministry requirements are met while fostering a trauma-informed, relationship-based

Qualifications

  • BC Ministry of Education and Child Care teaching certification, or eligibility for certification.
  • Experience in school leadership or readiness to step into a leadership role with strong mentorship.
  • Experience in inclusive education and supporting children with higher needs.
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional leadership grounded in the BC curriculum and the Binygunchagh Deyen philosophy.
  • Lead, supervise, and support teachers, child development support workers, and school staff.
  • Oversee daily school operations, scheduling, budgeting, and record keeping.
  • Lead the development and review of inclusive education plans (IEPs) for learners with higher support needs.
  • Build a safe, trauma informed school culture where every child and family belongs.
  • Champion land based learning, Indigenous knowledge, language, and culture across the school.
  • Work with Elders, knowledge keepers, community partners, and ECHEN Healing Society programs.
  • Meet BC Ministry of Education and Child Care requirements for independent schools, including reporting, inspections, and certification.
