Job summary

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) in Ottawa, ON, is seeking a supervisor to lead a team of cleaners in a 12-storey office building. Under the Facilities Manager, you will instruct, coordinate, and monitor daily cleaning operations.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in large cleaning environments, 1–3 years in lead roles, and experience supervising unionized staff. Knowledge of WHMIS, MSDS, green cleaning practices, and strong leadership and communication skills are essential.

About the role

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, leads, instructs, and participates in the tasks and duties of a group of cleaners in the daily cleaning of a 12-storey office building.

Education & Experience
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in large commercial or office cleaning environments.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a lead hand or supervisory capacity.
  • Experience supervising unionized staff and working within a collective agreement.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of WHMIS regulations and use of MSDS specifications.
  • Strong reading, comprehension, organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of green cleaning standards and environmentally responsible cleaning practices.
Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff members, management, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Ability to follow manufacturer product and equipment instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high standards, lead and hold staff accountable, and ensure a safe and professional workplace culture.
  • Strong reading, comprehension, organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in providing clear instructions, product or equipment demonstrations, training, coaching, and motivating staff members.
Personal suitability

High degree of initiative, good judgement and tact; Commitment to union principles.
