The Minister's Office at the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services is seeking a dynamic and strategic communications professional to join our team as Press Secretary and Digital Communications Advisor. This role is critical in shaping the public narrative, managing media relations, and leading digital engagement for the Minister and the Ministry.
Key Responsibilities
Media Relations & Press Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries and coordinate timely, accurate responses.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors and media outlets.
- Support the Minister at press conferences, public events, and scrums, ensuring clear messaging and media readiness.
- Monitor media coverage and flag emerging issues or early alerts to the Minister and senior staff.
- Provide strategic advice on media engagement and public messaging.
Digital Communications & Social Media
- Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the Minister’s and Ministry’s priorities.
- Draft engaging and informative social media content across platforms (e.g., X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Manage the social media calendar, ensuring timely approvals and publication of content.
- Monitor social media trends and analytics to optimize engagement and reach.
Strategic Planning & Coordination
- Oversee and maintain the social media calendar for the Minister and the Ministry, ensuring alignment with communication priorities.
- Collaborate with policy, stakeholder relations, and communications teams to ensure alignment of messaging and timing.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of the House Binder, ensuring the Minister is briefed and equipped for legislative sessions
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited post-secondary institution is required.
- Proven experience in media relations, journalism, or political communications.
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and tone.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts in a professional or political context.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and political acuity.
