Description:
The Powertrain Design Release Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and release of components and subsystems in conventional automatic and hybrid transmissions.
Main Design Release Engineer Objectives:
- Develop technical requirements for components and subsystems of conventional automatic and hybrid transmissions
- Evaluate designs according to 'engineering best practice' documents
- Develop DFMEAs and assess designs for failure mode robustness
- Create tools, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for transmission components
- Collaborate on design detailing and CAE activities for updates or new designs
- Support manufacturing on production-related issues
- Generate and implement cost reduction ideas
- Participate in warranty and cost reduction meetings to develop solutions for warranty issues
- Conduct root cause analysis of transmission failures
- Work with the transmission systems group to address failures using appropriate tools and processes
- Guide and support suppliers through resourcing, process, sourcing changes, and development using the change management system
Equivalent titles considered: Release Engineer, Design & Release Engineer, Product Engineer
Requirements:
- Occasional driving to meetings in the Detroit area (e.g., Windsor, Toronto). State your residence on the resume.
- Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- 3–5 years of automotive engineering experience in product development, with at least 2 years in powertrain
- Experience with die-cast aluminum components, park system components, and seals
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong work ethic, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s degree in an engineering-related field
- Knowledge of NX/Teamcenter
- Design for Six Sigma certification
- Experience with automatic transmission and driveline components
Additional Information:
- Design release experience with aluminum casting components (3+ years preferred)
- Design release experience with sealing components (3+ years preferred)
- Familiarity with powertrain components: conventional and hybrid transmissions, electric drive motors
- Knowledge of NX/VIZ/Teamcenter systems
- Experience working with automotive suppliers
Other Details:
- Overall experience: 3+ years preferred; 5+ years ideal
- Remote hybrid position; ability to work at the ARDC facility 1 day/week
- No requirement to drive Stellantis vehicles
- Travel: less than 10%, mainly to Auburn Hills once a month
