Job summary

The City of Grande Prairie's Recreation Department is seeking a Pool Operator I to help maintain water quality and operate aquatic systems safely for the community.

You will conduct routine water testing, manage chemical balances, keep logs, and respond to incidents. The role offers a 40-hour week and a starting hourly wage of 36.43 CAD, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Pool Operations 1 Certification.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • WHMIS training required.
  • Fire extinguisher training required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain water quality and operate aquatic systems safely.
  • Perform routine water testing and chemical balancing per health regulations.
  • Monitor systems and keep accurate logs and documentation.
  • Manual chemical dosing and respond to water quality incidents.
  • Manage chemical inventory and ensure safety standards.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on aquatic equipment.
  • Ensure pools, splash pads, and related amenities are safe and functional, troubleshooting as needed.

Job description

Our Recreation Department is looking for a dedicated Pool Operator I to join the team.

Position Responsibilities
  • Pool Operators independently maintain water quality and ensure the safe, efficient operation of aquatic mechanical and filtration systems.
  • Conducting routine water testing and chemical balancing in accordance with provincial health regulations,
  • Monitoring automated and manual systems, and maintaining accurate operational logs and documentation.
  • Manual chemical dosing, responding to water quality incidents and contaminations
  • Managing chemical inventory, and ensuring all processes align with public health and safety standards.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on aquatic systems and equipment within their assigned area.
  • Monitoring facility conditions, ensuring all aquatic environments (pools, splash pads, wave features, and related amenities) are safe, clean, and fully operational, and troubleshooting system issues while escalating as required.

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Starting salary $36.43 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
