Job summary

The City of Grande Prairie is seeking a part-time Lifeguard/Facility Attendant to assist lifeguards, monitor aquatic areas, and provide courteous service. You will support safety education, enforce rules, and assist with daily operations in a fast-paced, team-focused setting.

Applicants must be 16+, hold Standard First Aid and CPR-C, and be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. A current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required. Starting wage $22.76/hour.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • First Aid/CPR-C certification.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting lifeguards in maintaining a safe aquatic environment through education and enforcement of rules.
  • Monitoring the use of aquatic amenities to ensure safety and proper use.
  • Supporting daily amenity operations to ensure availability and safety.
  • Providing minor first aid and coordinating with responders during emergencies.
  • Following safe work procedures to protect patrons, staff, and facilities.
  • Deescalating challenging interactions with patrons using calm, clear communication.
  • Maintaining facility cleanliness and daily operational tasks.
  • Delivering professional customer service to patrons and program participants.
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive atmosphere aligned with safety commitments.
  • Demonstrating adaptability and strong situational awareness in a fast-paced team environment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Assisting lifeguards in maintaining a safe and welcoming aquatic environment through education and enforcement of rules and regulations.
  • Monitoring the use of aquatic amenities such as slides to ensure proper use and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Supporting daily amenity operations to ensure consistent availability and safe use.
  • Providing support during emergency situations, including minor first aid assistance and coordination with certified responders.
  • Following and promoting safe work procedures to maintain the safety of patrons, staff, and the facility environment.
  • Assisting in deescalating challenging or high-stress interactions with patrons using clear, calm, and respectful communication.
  • Contributing to facility cleanliness and daily operational tasks to uphold public health and safety standards.
  • Delivering professional, courteous customer service to all patrons, user groups, and program participants.
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere aligned with the facility's commitment to community safety and service excellence.
  • This role requires strong situational awareness, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Hours

The standard workweek consists of a minimum of 20 hours per week, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Starting salary $22.76 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
